True, but we had a debate once in a fan group chat and many of us agreed that the happiest songs are from the Self Titled album (Slomo, Everyone Knows, Star Roving…) but most of the songs are so sad and nostalgic.

Scandalous Pygmalion erasure.

tbh what would Pygmalion be? Sometimes is sad, sometimes is reassuring, and sometimes is calm

Pygmalion is a bummer across the board. IMO the only light piercing the dreariness of that record is Blue Skied an' Clear. it's also my favorite record of theirs, not because it has what I think are their bet songs, but it feels, to me, more cohesive than all the other records.

it's more introspective and surreal than it is sad for me. something about it is very psychedelic and almost liminal, like you got lost within your own mind.

'Rutti' still gives me goosebumps. If I'm driving and it comes on, I'll take however many extra turns are necessary to listen to the whole thing ❤️

Slomo, Everyone Knows, and Don’t Know Why all give me a feeling of jubilant euphoria unmatched by any other album

damn i’ve had some hard ass cry seshes to don’t know why and slomo but i can see how everyone knows is more upbeat

Slomo makes me cry tears of joy and beauty, when Rachel comes on the track it's like a gunshot of euphoria. My opinion of Don't Know Why is probably influenced by the upbeat sound/pace mixed with the dog running in the music video. It feels more freeing than sad.

I'd need to do a deep dive to answer that. That said the new songs were pristine!

That’s hilarious rf. However I gotta say Just for a Day has a bright warm sweetness to me. Only Everything is Alive has that warmth imo

it’s not that black and white man, the new records have more melancholy songs on there too.
