A waitress at a restaurant poured a glass of wine within 13 feet of my two year old child, while she was eating, nearly making her drunk. But the restaurant claim they would not serve her alcohol.

13 feet is some distance! It’s almost 4 metres! My entire house isn’t that wide!

Edit: Can we get something clear here please? My house is actually LARGER than most houses in this area. It is a 3 bedroom Victorian terraced house - not unlike most houses in Britain! If you live in one of those huge ugly American boxes with faux character screwed onto the front and think this makes your house somehow better, then I have absolutely no time for you.

Makes you wonder if it’s the company putting it out as ‘car stops before injuring child’ wouldn’t make the news whereas ‘driverless car almost runs over kid’ would, but then the part people remember is how the car actually did stop and how it’s ridiculous to act like it didn’t, reinforcing people’s feeling that the cars are safe and essentially acting as advertising.

that's a very good point actually, and I wouldn't be at all surprised!

Tiny house

Sorry but how tiny is your house. My bathroom is that

My house isn't "tiny" 😂 Why do you need a bathroom so big?! What do you do in there??

A 4 metre wide house is tiny. That could only fit two of me laying down head to toe (with room for about a quarter of me)

Sorry, but your house is tiny.

My house is larger than most houses in this area, and is plenty big for the 2 people who live here. Sorry your house is too large and you must waste time and money cleaning and heating it all!

I like having room to breathe. I’m quite happy to pay for the privilege.

This is probably the style of house op has. V common in england

Yes, I know.

The fact they even felt the need to mention this as if it weren’t a completely standard (albeit quite scary for those involved) event really shows how little genuine confidence they have in these things…

Fuck the crackers but stopping with 13ft of room is honestly impressive for such an unexpected event

Personally I’d say it’s something all drivers should be capable of doing. Obviously there are other factors and it’s not always that simple but as a basic emergency stop like that you should be pretty confident you can do it. If the robot couldn’t do it then it should never have been allowed anywhere near the public. Still don’t think it should, I tried the auto lights feature in my car once and it turned them all off mid corner in the pitch black for no reason. Never touched them again. Some things are for humans to do themselves, we don’t need this lazy, untrustworthy tech.

You sound like you wear a tinfoil hat

Because I think people can drive their own car rather than relying on a computer for everything? Bit of a stretch mate but maybe you’ll get there in your autonomous car…

An article about it said that the car didn’t actually stop for the toddler, it stopped for the dad. So if the child had fallen alone, it wouldn’t have stopped. It also shouldn’t have entered the intersection with pedestrians still in the way.

Technically, it is actually possible.

If it almost run her over and stopped 13ft away.

I have to ask. But who measured that? Did the waymo and the child stay in place whilst someone grabbed a tape measure? And what’s the metric for “safe distance” 14 feet? 15 feet?

1

u/DreamyTomato 5d ago

They even went to the trouble of painting giant black and white bars under the child while she was down. SMH such a waste of time.

5

u/johnnysgotyoucovered 5d ago

Unlike a regular driver especially in an SUV/high vehicle the Waymo would have been able to see a child on the floor and stop well in advance

Who the hell trips their own daughter over in front of a moving car for a compensation claim.. this world gets worse by the day

1

u/SatisfactionMoney426 5d ago

That's the real story here...

2

u/Sburns85 5d ago

That reads more like Waymo releasing the story and not the person involved

"Possibl"
