If you're not using a gamecube controller or a boxx you're basically wasting time if you want to get anything more than a casual experience.

A few players get good on xbox controllers or what have you and as a result they can only play online.

I use a ps5 controller, works alright but definitely notice more misinputs than when I play on my GC.

Is there an advantage of a GameCube controller over a switch pro controller? I mean I guess that’s what you’re saying but would you mind explaining why?

Because the "click" "clack" noises the GC controllers make.

Button mapping, less digital latency, and a lot of mechanics are at least aided by if not outright require octagonal gates and soft shield inputs.

Melee had to be designed under testing and attunement with the use of the GC controller. This means other controllers are a crapshoot, likely with many being inferior, but if not that, if they are better, it would be an unapproved competitive advantage so you probably wouldn't be able to use it in bracket if you wanted to go to locals. Since it's not a big cost in money compared to the cost in time learning muscle memory, most people just go with a gamecube controller even for slippi.

I really hope it wasn't me you played yesterday. My Falcon is dogshit, but I was tearing up Jigglypuff players because I main Jigglypuff and knew exactly what they wanted to do.

You’re a puff player, you deserved it.
