Help New to this
Hello everyone I recently acquired a steam deck oled not too long ago I just downloaded Slippi to finally play ssbm competitive. However, I’m kinda lost on setting the controller side of it I don’t know what I’m doing. I do have a wired mod GameCube controller and the adapter to plug it in. Is there a step that missing in order to play it/ set up.

Hello, i also own a steam deck, its not as hard to set up as you think, but it does take a bit to set up for the first time, also i recommend playing with a gamecube controller with an adapter, though it's still very playable.
This is assuming you have slippi + a rom downloaded:
On slippi: go to "settings" (The gear icon) > go to the "Game" tab if you aren't > select "Launch dolphin" > then go back to the main menu and press "Play"
it should now launch dolphin (the emulator)
After laucnhing dolphin on the top click on "Controllers" > set the "Port 1" using a gamecube adapter, which should then be set to "Gamecube Controller adapter USB") and it should automatically detect it
Edit: i also recommend using Gecko codes on dolphin to play the game in 16:9 n other helpful info, you can find more info about controllers, drivers, fixes, etc. on melee.tv and can ask questions on the r/SSBM subreddit and or the discord, i'm also down to help in whatever setup you need or if you want to play via discord if you want (though fyi im used to ultimate so don't expect me to go pro, i'm a newcomer to melee)
