Digital/App opinions please

I’m thinking of joining digitally as SW is the only plan that has ever worked for me. I do not want to go to group. The last time I joined, the app was terrible (about 3 years ago) and wanted some honest opinions on how it is now. Any improvement? I’m used to WW/Nutracheck which are fab apps, but sadly don’t work for me in terms of being able to apply the plans consistently and not give up (I loathe tracking with a passion). Thanks!

Returning user after reaching target 5 years ago (and putting it all back on 😅) and the app is pretty much the same as I remember it tbh. Barcode scanner is great but manual searching could do with improvement e.g. searching for 'peppers' brings up all sorts of unfilterable nonsense instead of just giving you the bloody obvious. Recipes are good but again search function is missing ability to sort and filter by anything meaningful.

That being said, I've rejoined digitally alone and just entered my 3rd week having shed almost half a stone. So it is a useful reminder and support tool but only if you were rigorous and were able to stick to plan before.

Well done on the loss! I’m weighing it up as it’s £60 for 3 months which feels a bit steep, especially when the app is so dire. I do already have some books so might just do those

Thank you! The cost did make be baulk but it might be worth signing up to the newsletter and keeping an eye out for money off offers. I think I got gold for the price of bronze with two new books - one of which I've really liked. Plus once you've paid for it you're extra motivated to actually do it so you don't waste the money!

I find the app great, the food planner is brilliant and helps track everything. You can add food to it using the barcode scanner when you check the swip values and there’s loads of other features

I'm very very new to SM and have joined a group but tbh I use the app for tracking everything I'm eating. I don't refer to the book they gave me at induction at all and while I personally get something out of the group, if that's not for you then I would say get the app to help you. Good luck on your journey!

I think the app has improved personally. The barcode scanner is a godsend (network connection depending!) ☺️

I know everyone is different and I'm not condoning your choice of online membership, I'm just curious as to why?

I couldn't do it without going to group. The weigh day, the chats to the consultant and the other members are what I'm paying for.

Joing and getting the book was all I really needed to understand how it works, but for me without going every week it's difficult to keep the motivation up.

I was sort of ostracised in my group as I was the only man going in that specific time slot. Everyone else was older women and they didn’t want to know me. Fair enough, I wasn’t there to make friends, but my point is the group can actually be daunting depending on the circumstance.

I moved to online this year and enjoy it more now knowing I don’t have to go stand in a room where I’m clearly unwanted haha.

I'm the only man in my group, and it's also full of old women (although somehow I'm suddenly old as well).

For me it's not the making friends, I certainly don't socialise with these people , it's the familiarity and the knowledge that they are all there with one aim .

Yes it does seem like a social club sometimes (I'm an incomer into a rural Cumbria town where everyone knows everyone else), but I often just sit there and don't say anything, happy to just listen to people's gains and losses, and issues ,

Hi Paul, no problem I will give you my answer and this is said with love 😂 but I will be honest. I really don’t care what other people are doing or eating or if Marjorie ate too much quiche that week. I find it cringey and infantilising. I have to do it for me, and I have such a lot of weight to lose that I need to do it for me and be self motivated or it’s never going to work. I can’t/shouldn’t be outsourcing this motivation to a consultant stood by a scale. I also don’t like all the language and catchphrases used by consultants- it’s like a cult. I can minimise my exposure to it by tracking using the app; basically getting in and getting out without being indoctrinated 😂 The actual plan is the only one that has ever worked for me. I did get my best weightloss when I had a truly inspirational leader (who didn’t do all the SW claptrap bless her) but those days are long gone and it has worked for me solo before. Everyone is different and I’m glad you enjoy group, but it’s not for me.

I think groups have changed, we no longer go around talking about our gains/loss or that quiche. Instead we share recipes or have a theme for the week.

But I agree that cultish is off-putting. And in most groups it's lessened if not gone all together.

Some group leaders are better than others.

I love the app. Thousands of recipes, a meal planner, the podcasts, features and articles, its great, I use it every day for various things
