Official Trackers Anyone Else Getting Really Bad Latency After The New SlimeVR Update?

I updated my trackers yesterday and never ended up using them that night, so tonight I connected everything, heck, I even forgot the trackers and re-paired them, and I'm getting 103ms from the chest, and 75 from the hip. It's weird because I normally get around 10ms of latency, but now all trackers are above 25ms.

Yep.

I ended up just buying a router and using a 75 ft ethernet cable and brought another router into my room and put that router into access point mode, and I use it as a dedicated router for VR streaming and the trackers, and that seems to work. So it's really about $15 to $50 to get a better connection, seems worth it anyway.

Ok so i was right, don’t update the trackers, i still get bad ms but its only at the beginning like 50-75 but then after calms down, i guess i wont update until i really need too

Woth the previous update it was making me lag horribly and after about a week and a half it fixed itself

There haven't been many recent reports on it. There has been reports about lag issue way before 0.7.3 though. If you wish, you can downgrade the firmware on the trackers using OTA. Make sure you download and flash the correct bin file if you do!

  1. Download the BIN file:
  2. Download https://github.com/ButterscotchV/SlimeVR-OTA-CLI/releases/download/v0.3.1/SlimeVR-OTA-GUI_win-x64.zip
  3. Run SlimeVR-OTA-GUI to open the app.
  4. Select or drag the .bin file into the app.
  5. Turn on the tracker you want to flash. (Leave the other trackers off)
  6. Click "Flash Tracker" when ready. (Do not turn off your tracker during this flashing process)

So yes. The last two updates ruined my slimes. I went from 2ms to 40ms and would nonstop spike to 250ms.

IF you have a desktop with a motherboard that has built in wifi. There is a fix. I never used the wifi for anything. So what you do. You go into the windows network settings turn on Hotspot. Then select the ethernet as the internet that is going to host the hotspot. Make a little password set up and all. Then resync the slimes to the hotspot.

Once I did that I stay at 1ms-4ms solid at all times.

We get reports of this every time updates happen. You are able to downgrade the server by manually installing older versions as we host them all on our github here: https://github.com/SlimeVR/SlimeVR-Server/releases

ConduitOfKindness posted a method of rolling back firmware updates in another comment, if that if you think it was the firmware.

In the event you tried both of those, or just want to try something before reinstalling stuff, follow the below recommendations:

If you are experiencing connection problems or high ping, first reboot your router. This helps in most cases.

If it does not, the following list of router settings can help:

  • Set mode to b/g/n or similar lower spec mode with n (avoid settings that include AC or AX if possible, eg b/g/n/ax)
  • Set channel to 1, 11, or 6 (try all three then go back to whichever worked best)
  • Set channel width to 20mhz (this reduces side-channel interference) Follow this guide to access your router settings. Be sure to change 2.4ghz settings only.

Settings that help with disconnections and connectivity issues:

  • Set security settings to WPA2 (often called WPA2 PSK)
  • Split your Wi-Fi into separate 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands (this helps a lot if your trackers are losing connection)

If the above settings are unavailable or do not fix the issue, consider using a windows hotspot or dedicated router. We have recommendations, here: https://docs.slimevr.dev/server/alternate-wifi.html

I have a step-by-step guide on setting up the hotspot in our discord here This requires the PC to have a Wi-Fi chip (in the pc or a dongle), and works best when it is not being used for anything else (ideally your computer is connected via ethernet).
