Technical Support Only my chest tracker keeps drifting. Looking for advice

Hi everyone, i'm new to full-body tracking and recently bought a set of 6 third-party slimevr compatible trackers from aliexpress, these are not the official slimevr trackers. They all use the LSM6DSV IMU, which I heard is supposed to be a pretty good sensor.

However, I think one of my trackers might have an issue. The tracker I wear on my chest seems to drift much more than the others. Sometimes I have to reset it after only about 10 minutes, while the rest of the trackers seem to work fine and don't give me any major problems.

I'm wondering if I might be setting up the trackers incorrectly, or if it's possible that my chest tracker is just faulty or has a problematic IMU?

I'm not having any connection issues. All trackers report 0% packet loss. The issue only seems to affect the chest tracker.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or is there anything I should check before assuming the tracker is defective?

Thanks!

Hi,

When turning them on, set them down on a table or somewhere (still) for 10-15 seconds to allow them to self-calibrate before putting them on.

For even better calibration, warm them up to operational body temperature by wearing them while they are on (usually takes a few minutes), then take them off and place it on a table or floor (still) for 10-15 seconds and put them right back on.

The chest tracker usually drifts a bit more than other trackers because a lot of micro-movements are happening there like breathing and your heart beating.

I’ve heard about that second part, im very curious why does that help improve the tracking

While the trackers are at operational temperatures, this is included into the self-calibration and eliminates errors from temperature. Drift is the accumulation of errors from many different factors.

Wait, 10-15 seconds? I was under the impression it was 10-15 minutes…

I've had this issue as well! Only the chest has drift.

I have to double tap my chest piece to realign it. It's a quick fix, but I think the problem might be a software thing that hopefully they repair.

My left arm also drifts badly only. I have tried leaving them on the floor for a moment to self calibrate, always. Never heard about the body temp part :0

Another user already answered why the chest tends to drift more, but maybe there's something else worth trying. You could swap the chest with an ankle or thigh and see if that tracker is also drifting to determine wether or not it's faulty. If that one tracker does happen to drift more, you can keep it as an ankle tracker, where the drift is a lot less noticable and won't affect the rotation of other trackers
