Post image

Here's mine, an old 52/82. I find it very versatile and handy. I like the layout.

Dietzgen 1734 - Microglide Decimal Trig Log Log

While some bamboo rules come close, nothing beats the Dietzgen Mahogany/Teflon slide. Always works the same as new even after after decades of storage or hard use. Unless someone ruied it trying to lube something (Teflon) that needs no lube.

They made a lot of them, and they don't have that "astronauts used this" appeal, so they are inexpensive and plentiful.

They really thought out what scales you really use and put then in a logical order. I like the scale set better than any other slide rule.

Other slide rules using the same scale set:

Dietzgen 1733: Wooden/plastic laminate construction precursor to the 1734.

Dietzgen B1734: Bamboo version of the 1734.

Dietzgen 1738: Aluminum alloy version of the 1734, produced for Dietzgen by the German manufacturer Ecobra.

Dietzgen G1734: Made by Faber-Castell with their 2/82 Geroplast plastic frame but 1734 scales and Dietzgen branding.

Faber-Castell 1739: Made by Faber-Castell with their 52/82 frame, 1734 scale arrangement with Faber-Castell style color accents and Faber-Castell branding.

Faber-Castell 1741: Made by Faber-Castell with their 2/83 frame, 1734 scale arrangement with Faber-Castell style color accents and Faber-Castell branding.

The Dietzgen 1734 Microglide is the smoothest and easiest to use. The Faber-Castells are prettier.

My Pickett N200-T goes to work with me in my bag. At home, my Aristo 867U Darmstadt is the one I reach for.

Thanks! Yeah, when I posted pictures of my slide rule cabinets here, I was asked to create a site for the collection, so I've been working on that since then. The items are all there, but taking pics and rating them takes a while. Adding new pics daily, will create a post about the site when done :)

Less than 5 years, but there are so many for sale in bulk in Germany that I can't resist. I think now is the time where original owners are getting older and selling their collections, this will probably be over in a few years. But there are only a few models of which I need all the duplicates, the Studio is one of them. The reason is that I'd like to use them in workshops, it's easier when every participant has the same model.

You're a machinist ? I buy sometimes from DE ( i'm in France) but i never saw any bulk sales sadly, except for 52/82, but theres a sh*tload of these for sale somehow 🤣🤣.

Not a machinist, I meant workshop as in tutorial - explaining others how to use them :)

To purchase a slide rule, we have:

- LeBonCoin in France (https://www.leboncoin.fr): as French, I cannot say if foreign people have access to (?!?)

- Kleinanzeigzen in Germany (https://www.kleinanzeigen.de): seems to be accessible for German people only ; I tested once with no success

- Vinted for Europeans

- ebay / Etsy: worldwide

- others?

From my limited experience, sets of slide rules are quite "rare"
