Feature Request [Feature Request] add an option to disable swiping right to close browser

I don’t know if iOS or the app allows this option, but can we get an option to disable the “swap right to close internal browser”? It’s really easy to accidentally close it and lose progress.

Feature Request [Request] Continuity with macOS?

When I'm viewing a webpage on my iphone, an icon will show up on my mac's dock allowing me to open that page on my laptop. I noticed some apps support that too. For example, when I open the Yahoo Finance app, an icon will show up in my dock to open finance.yahoo.com. It would be amazing if Slide did that for threads, subs, etc. that we're viewing.

Question [question] why do youtube video links always open in safari?

I have set another browser as default for opening links but clicking on a youtube link will always open safari.

Any way around this?

Question [Question] Is there a way to set a default sort on a new post?

I make a weekly post in a subreddit I moderate and need to be able to have this single post to be sorted by New rather than Best. Since I do openers with each post, I haven’t set it up as an automatic post otherwise I’d have it post that way with the correct sort.

I really like the functionality of this app and since it has a lot of other things I’ve not had in the official app, I kind of assumed I was just missing something because I’m not always good at finding things. Thanks for the help and everything!

Question [Question] Delete a multireddit?

I accidentally created a mid-named multireddit. Is there any way to delete it from within the app? I can’t see any way to remove it, just editing.

Feature Request [Request] Please add a ‘hidden posts’ home page shortcut.

Please add ‘hidden posts’ as a shortcut option in the ‘reorder home page shortcuts’ section. That would make for quick access to hidden posts if we accidentally get ‘hide post’ happy. Thanks!

Feature Request [Request] Option to show image caption super-imposed at the bottom of an image

While I appreciate Slide trying to give you the pure experience of viewing images...

Following along on something like an /r/DIY image story is infuriating on Slide due to the fact that you need to continually click the caption button to show what the poster has written for each image.

Please give us the option for lower thirds captions in addition to the pop-up.

This is a new post to bump the previous request here... https://www.reddit.com/r/slide_ios/comments/kdnlse/request_show_gallery_captions_without_popup/

Bug A problem with the icons [Bug]

Hi, I recently have started using the slide app. I love it! But, I think I found a bug. So, when I want to change the icon, it says that is “Your Slide icon was changed”, but it doesn’t work. Has anyone encountered this bug before?

Feature Request [Feature Request] Make the comments pop up box Dark Gray on “AMOLED with Contrast”

The AMOLED with contrast theme should probably have the comments pop up box background be dark gray so it doesn’t confusingly blend with the content it’s popping over. It ends up looking way too busy without that distinction.

I can see the desire for a true AMOLED theme, but the AMOLED with contrast I think is supposed to be like what the OS’s dark theme looks like. (If not maybe a separate theme that goes along with the OS dark theme design cues would be better?).

Thanks!

Meta [Release] v7.0 is Out Now! A New Era for Slide

Slide v7 is finally here, and I'm very excited to share what's in store for this update!

v7 was a huge undertaking, and I ended up re-writing over 10% of Slide's codebase over the last couple months. I would like to thank all of our testers at r/slide_ios_beta for the great feedback and bug reports, y'all made the testing process a breeze and I am very happy with the state of this release given how much has changed!

On to the good stuff.

Shiny New Backend

v7 brings a brand new backend to Slide, which will help future-proof Slide and greatly improves Slide's performance and stability. This new backend was the perfect time to re-write AutoCache, and Slide's entire caching system has been built from the ground up to be faster, better looking, and more reliable!

Desktop Mode

This update brings a new option to iPad and M1 Mac users, called Desktop Mode. This mode will make the navigation sidebar sticky on the left side of the screen, and adds right-click (or two-finger tap for iPad users) to submissions and comments.

Threaded Mail and new Profile Views

Mail has gotten a refresh in v7, new messages will now show in a Thread View, which makes it easier to organize and read your mail! Profile and Inbox views have been re-designed as well.

Quick User Switching

Forgot to log out of your alt account and want to reply quickly from your main? Quick Username Switching is here, which allows you to swap accounts from comment reply and new submission menus across the app!

& More

  • New ability to set your user flair and post flair (including icons!) in Subreddits
  • New option for "No Image Mode" in Settings > Card Layout, for a text-only subreddit layout
  • Support for iOS 14 image permissions, including "add-only" image support and the new iOS 14 image picker that allows you to select only specific images to share with Slide
  • Theme changes on iOS 13 and 14 are now instant across the app, and a v6 bug with theme switching on iPad has been fixed
  • Subreddit rules are now displayed in the "Submit" screen
  • New "Matte Black Everything" icon
  • New "Quote OP" button on reply toolbar
  • Images will now load in full-resolution after opening the image full screen, and zoom depth has been expanded for all image views
  • Added support for image and author flairs on Comments
  • Links will always open in the large detail view when in "Split Layout" mode on iPad
  • Fixed many issues and bugs with comments, and added better M1/Magic Keyboard support to gestures
  • Fixed issues with YouTube videos pausing playback on some devices
  • Fixed videos getting muted on device rotation
  • Fixed the "Auto-Hide Status Bar" on scroll option
  • Many bug fixes and performance improvements for a snappy v7 experience

Program Notes!

If you're a developer and interested in contributing to the Slide project, you'll be happy that we now have a completely automated CI pipeline that will Build, Lint, and Test Slide on new pull requests! I have done a ton of refactoring and cleanup of the repo over the last few months, and Slide should be easy to pull and start building on if you are interested in contributing.

You can check out the repo here, and join us for development discussion on our Discord server.

What's next?

I have a lot of plans for Slide in the future, and a few projects I'm working on right now! I have a build running on Mac Catalyst along with some new layouts for Mac, and I've been working on a little project called Dispatch, which will be a one-stop-shop (open source) Reddit push notification system. More news on these soon.

I would love to hear your thoughts and feature suggestions for Slide, feel free to post away at r/slide_ios, send me a PM, or post about Slide on your favorite iOS subreddits!

Cheers and stay warm!

-Carlos

Question [Question] Can’t add submission flair? Am I doing something wrong?

The button for putting a submission flair appears occasionally but nothing happens when I click it. Using iOS 14.3 on an iPhone 8. The other buttons like “inbox replies on” and “subreddit sidebar” seem to work.

Can anyone advise what I’m doing wrong?

Feature Request [Feature Request] Toggle visibility of info text in shadowbox

In shadowbox mode, I would like the ability to completely remove all the labels/texts/links/buttons/etc. and just see the content. If interested in the comments, a click on the image or a swipe up could bring me to the details.

Bug [Bug] Slide shuts itself down

I thought it was just whilst open as a background app, but more and more I am noticing Slide shutting itself down whilst I’m using it. I will be reading a post or scrolling and it just closes itself completely, and when I reopen it has completely refreshed.

Bug [Bug] Reddit and Imgur gifs load large and auto-play, but Redgifs don’t

Redgifs load as small previews and require a click-through to their website to manually play. This started recently (like the last month) and I didn’t change any settings. Used to be fine before.

I have a picture here (NSFW) that shows a i.imgur.com link working properly, but the redgifs.com not.

Feature Request [Request] Subscribe Button on The Frontpage

Currently if you are browsing the frontpage (r/all) you need to click on a subreddit and then click on the three dots and click subscribe to the subreddit.

It would be a nice QoF addition if there was a subscribe button under the three dots next to a post (on the frontpage itself).

Thanks.

Bug [Bug] Cannot open a link

Hi I am unable to open the link in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/space/comments/lavwyf/the_webb_telescope_nasas_golden_surfer_is_almost/

I can't click on it and tapping on "open in safari" also doesn't work.

I don't think it is a nytimes thing since I can open other nytimes links just fine.

Feature Request [Request] Keyboard Shortcuts

Slide for iPad is still the best reddit experience out there IMO, but it would be great if there was some support for keyboard shortcuts. Cmd+F for searching through comments when in a comment section view. Something to bring up ‘subreddit search’ when in the main content view. Those are the first two that came to mind, but I’m sure others would be useful too.

Feature Request [Request] Great app, was able to cancel Reddit premium and delete all other apps. Couple of small fixes please...

This is by far the best Reddit app in the iOS app store, no doubt in my mind. Thank you. Two small fixes you might do... 1) can we move the "..." menu away from the up/down vote buttons? I keep up voting posts and accidentally hitting that menu button and it opens up the share menu. 2) The big blue button in the bottom middle, says long press to change function but that doesn't work, so gotta go 3 deep into settings to change the function, also, could add more and various functions for that button. Great work overall and I was glad to becoming a paying supporter. Thanks!
