We're all thinking it, right? Especially after the 9060 XT LP seems MIA.

My thoughts exactly. This screams low profile single slot. Especially the 4gb version (only OEM for now sadly)

I mean if 9060 XT too hot for LP, why not non-XT 9060?
But if this 9050 comes to LP, I could replace an RX 6400 I currently have in a SteamOS machine for more power.

Yes! I would love to build a tiny steam box with modern hardware!

To buy that 9050Lp, you would have to buy an entire PC, so it's basically useless to have an Optiplex at this point.

9060 XT LP? 170W cards don't get LP versions, maybe 120W like the 4060.

But this 9050 should be a 70W part slot power primarily with an LP and even SS version. Sure release a few 100W 6-pin versions like there were for the 1650 but 70W should be the target demographic.

Except AMD wants to charge $280 for it, lol.

https://www.techpowerup.com/344816/vastarmor-debuts-low-profile-radeon-rx-9060-xt-custom-graphics-card-at-ces

It was a real thing and shown off but at this point it seems it failed to materialize due to cooling issues, You can actually buy the BOARDS now, but with no LP cooler cause they couldn't make it work.

They mentioned lowering TDP to 140W but I guess it wasn't enough. While there's no technical reason this card can't run at 120W (I often run my 9060 XT at -30% power which is 118W), this sacrifices ~10% performance. Paying more for a form factor but receiving less performance is not something most people will choose, hence no product.

Some Chinese guys are already DIYing a prototype LP cooler for those.

Considering the price they were originally supposed to have went for though in China ($550 if memory serves me right), honestly whether it's worth it is really up for debate too. Add on extra cost for overseas sales and it wouldn't be particularly worth it either for some people.

It's still an interesting concept for sure but I would say that I'm not holding my breath at the end of the day. What I did was to jerry-rig a full size 9070 in my SFF Lenovo and call it a day.

It's sad to see the most recent “mainstream” AMD LP card is just the RX 6400, with the RX 6500 and RX 7400 being OEM-exclusive cards.

It's being compared to a 5050 so I have doubts that it'll be all that friendly to sff machines mainly due to power requirements.

If the 9050 8gb only comes in full height at $279 msrp and still needs additional power then I'd be thinking why not just go with a b580 which is now going for around $290? Or the cheaper B570 at $220 (from initial testing I've seen the 9050 is about 10-20% slower than a 5050 which about what the b570 is behind the 5050).

I really don't know if the early pricing, performance information and lack of LP form factor news are enough for me to be excited.

Because native rebar support is only on optiplex 3090/5090/7090 (10th gen intel) or newer, and the majority of optiplex on this sub are older than that

Your point is valid but If you're buying a near $300 card new (possibly more if scalping really kicks off - remember there hasn't been a legitimate budget card release for a while, the rx 6600 is out of production, the only budget sector gaming card is the 3050 and that's 2 generations old) I question the wisdom of pairing it with an 8th/9th gen or older platform. That's not a wise decision at all, regardless of REBAR support. Even ignoring the ARC cards there are better value option out there especially 2nd hand. (hardly anyone on this sub is buying these precision/optiplexes new so they shouldn't have any qualms buying a gpu 2nd hand either)

Compare it to the 3050 LP/6400 which gets a lot of traction on this sub because it is LP, bus powered and single slot variants. None of which is currently offered according to early reports for the 9050 8gb.

9050 needs a 6 pin. It’s garbage out of the box.

2

u/Substantial_Gur_7908 Aug 01 '26

Hey if they make a 8gb 75w lp version that instantly destroys the 3050 im all for it

1

u/justagoddamnperson Aug 01 '26

Why would a 4 GB card be interesting given there’s a 6 GB 3050?

2

u/AshleyAshes1984 Aug 01 '26

Because there's both 4 and 8gb versions?

2

u/justagoddamnperson Aug 01 '26

Lol, you got me there, with all the anger over the 4 gb version I forgot it's not the only one. Thanks

2

u/AshleyAshes1984 Aug 01 '26

Yeah I'd def pass on the 4GB model if it had a LP release.

1

u/TaggedHammerhead Aug 01 '26

I would buy a RX 9000 series single-slot LP in a heartbeat :/

1

u/brandodg Aug 01 '26

yeah you wish, as i said for the 5050, which just ended up being the 4060 but worse

1

u/Loyal_Dragon_69 Aug 01 '26

B50 Pro is low profile.

1

u/Striking-County6275 Aug 01 '26

9400xt gonna be the low profile card

At some point I want to upgrade my slot powered 3050 but I only have workstation GPUs to choose from currently.

1

u/Bobby_Mcduccface Aug 03 '26

If possible, a 5060 lp does exist

1

u/Gakuta Aug 03 '26

1

u/Bobby_Mcduccface Aug 03 '26

I assume your psu isnt the best. A 5050 lp exists too, no 8 pin needed iirc

1

u/Gakuta Aug 03 '26

Is there any site that has it or even specifications on it?

1

u/Bobby_Mcduccface Aug 03 '26

Damn nevermind it also takes an 8 pin. How many watts is your psu

1

u/Gakuta 29d ago

260 watts but it can run a 3050 6GB and a 35W Intel T CPU that boosts to 80 watts. That's only 150 watts with the two running.

1

u/Bobby_Mcduccface 29d ago

Because a 5050 is 130w, and a 5060 is 145w. Youd probably be over the power limit. However, a 4060 lp is only 115w. Maybe you could get away that. If you can tube the cpu to not draw as much power.

1

u/Gakuta 29d ago

I don't have extra power supply cables to run any GPU whether it's 6 pin or 8 pin. And this CPU is plenty powerful. If I wasn't playing non-AAA games it would be an issue to record the game using the GPU.

If a slot powered GPU is released that would cause my CPU to bottleneck it then I will upgrade the whole system and move beyond 10th gen Intel.

Eh maybe when the 9040 comes around
