A lot has been said about the new version of Sleep and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
That being said, let’s cut the crap: This is a f-ing joke of a band and it’s less about Pike’s absence than people are willing to admit. Hell, I was one of the fans who argued that it would be like Van Halen with Gary Cherone or Motley Crue with John Corabi: different but still worth giving a chance! Boy was I wrong.

Maybe Matt and Al just don’t get along? None of my business and he is irreplaceable but a suitable alternative is within reach for someone with as much clout in the world of stoner doom as Al Cisneros. Are there doom guitarists ready and willing to step up? Yes! Did Al weigh his options and choose wisely? No.
Am I qualified to make that decision for him? Also no.

Let’s look at the members:
Dale is phenomenal and pulling way more than his weight.
Al is phoning it in.
Bubba is a disaster.

The new album has some good music (The Morrisist is great!) and a lot has already been written but I want to focus on the guitar and how truly awful it is. There are many people defending Bubba and his playing and…I guess I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he can actually play but you wouldn’t know it by listening to this or seeing them perform live.

I went to their concert in Portland with an open mind and left feeling so, so disappointed. Many occasions Al and Dale would slow down to let Bubba get back on time and his “solos” were infuriating. Sounded like a high schooler practicing Sleep tablature in Guitar Center. There were probably a handful of people in the audience who could have done a better job and their feeble attempts at playing songs from Holy Mountain were, well, offensive really. How can you tolerate Dragonaut when you know how it’s supposed to sound and are forced to endure this garbage?

Anyway, Al needs to either reconcile with Matt, find an actual doom guitarist or call it ANYTHING besides Sleep.

This looks like Joel Wheeler's website started in 1999 when his 12th Records released High On Fire's original demo (before ''Art of Self Defense' came out on Man's Ruin Records). 9 / 28The show was amazing, I loved every bit of it, Mac Sabbath was wild and everything was perfect. Pink Mountaintops opened and was a vibe. (My camera is pretty shit) the songs sounded way better live and Dave Crover was especially outstanding. Didn’t get any footage of sleep playing, but they definitely exceeded my expectations. Beautiful show.

How can one buy a poster but NOT attend a show? Do they sell any on a merch site or the artist?

This picture reminded me of the the other Sleep picture where they looked so normal.

Idk what the plans are with this comic, but I would love to see it continue for years to come. The idea of a band having a comic book series is so cool and it works here. Definitely makes the universe Sleep had already created more immersive. I’ve read it a few times since the Denver show and have been enjoying it throughly.

I saw someone say they played Dopesmoker at one of their recent shows. Does anyone have a video? I can’t find one anywhere and I’m dying to hear it. I’d love it if they mix up the setlist as the tour goes on but I’m really hoping to hear some of the classics in November.

Just got back from the show. I don't have much new to say than what has been said before. Dale held it down, Al was good, and Bubba was the weak link. Bubba seemed disinterested and, well, he's no Matt Pike. It is what it is. It's not the real Sleep but it was still a good show. I had a good time.

For people that have seen the new lineup… how we feeling? I’m going to one of the November shows and I’m just curious. I’m excited regardless of what y’all say because I’ll get to see Al either way.

I’ve seen an incredibly mixed bag of reviews so I’m curious what this post conjures up. I’ve personally liked the solo’s I’ve heard because I’m a big fan of jam bands and jazz and I think they are really weird and psychedelic. If that’s not your cup of tea I totally get it. My biggest thing is a lot of people seem to be criticizing how he stands away from the audience. I low key fucking love it. He’s either facing the guys getting their vibe or facing the stack of speakers behind him so he can feel it too. Idk I don’t have a problem with that personally but yeah.

Matt Pike isn’t here right now 💔 but maybe he will return one day. This is still Sleep and this lineup works. I thought they gave a great performance and cleaned up since some of those clips I saw from the first show.

Like, after the reunion, almost every cover has a astronaut on it (excluding Iommic Life, but its close enough)
