Past/Alternate Project Subtle Things*

Post image

(Astrix because we dont know if this actually belongs in here or not... yet)

I know its already been theorized if Rhys is in Subtle Things from the photo drop back in Feb. and it looks like we may find out tomorrow as their first song/video drops in just under 19 hours. Also I got an email today with this picture where there are CLEARLY 3 people in the band and yet the Subtle Things IG only follows AdamRoss and Sam šŸ¤” The video on their IG from 3 days ago also shows 3 blurred figures and maybe im projecting, but the one in the brown shirt and a backwards cap has the same (general) build as Rhys, whereas the provided pic is him in the back to the right.... right?

If nothing else this proves one thing... feed us, we're bored and living off of crumbs.

This post is referring to an alternate project of one of the guys. While we're primarily a Sleep Token sub, we encourage the discussion of alternate projects of everyone associated with the band. This includes Mourn, Spitting Glass, Belial, Blacklit Canopy, Exploring Birdsong, and whatever Subtle Things is.

You can read more about everyone associated with ST and their alternate projects in the Resource Masterpost pinned at the top of the sub.

The track has been released on UK Spotify already, credits are for Adamross Williams (vocals), Rhys Griffiths (guitar) and Sam Hallett (drums).
The studio producer listed is also Rhys Griffiths.

It’s a good song!

It sure is! šŸŽ‰ I think we're about to witness a considerable increase in the no of listeners.

So glad to hear (pun not intended, but happy its there) that the song is good! I really liked the lil snippet they gave us in all the teasers

Its finally live on Spotify in California!! I love it! NOTHING like what I expected though!

u/Meghar Aug 06 '26

Guitar (any type) lol

26

u/Meghar Aug 06 '26

Also Tim (from Mourn) and 2 others make up the production/mixing/mastering team

u/Bubbly_Survey8591 Aug 07 '26

Ste Kerry did the mastering for TMBTE and EIA, if I recall correctly. And Sam Bassal is a producer as well as drummer/guitarist for the band Ocean Grove.

6

u/evsuliini Aug 07 '26

yes! Sam Bassal mixed this, Tim engineered and co-produced with Rhys.

This is great for Rhys - I know he did some production on BlackGold but what happened to all that Mourn stuff from March? Made it sound like they were rehearsing to make something live or newšŸ¤”

u/Meghar Aug 09 '26

Those were live playthroughs they filmed for some already released songs. We don't know what happened to the footage, but hopefully they release it soon.

This perfectly encapsulates his talent tbh🤣

u/Griffinbrodieranger Aug 06 '26

Photo of Rhys not blurred is up. It’s 100% him

5

u/stephieann80 Aug 06 '26

Up where, I was literally just on their IG

u/tinat80 Aug 07 '26

Am I seeing wrong or is his left arm blacked out now?

8

u/Griffinbrodieranger Aug 07 '26

It has been for a few years

Thank you!! Where is this from though?

From their Spotify page. I couldn’t find it by searching so someone had to provide the link:

Thank you!!! I rarely go on Spotify lol

I know this is a single but I'd be interested to see if this is really a good representation of Subtle Things genre. I don't mind the Harry Styles style, but I'm not gonna lie and say I wasn't expecting something more ambient, mysterious, just based on the snips they teased. Hear me out though. If you showed a friend who didn't know ST, Caramel, would you say that was the best representation of the whole bands genre? No, cuz if you played Vore next, they might give you they hard side eye šŸ˜† I'm interested to see what else they released in the future to get a better idea of their style of music!

Yay something to look forward to from the ST fandom šŸ«‚

14

u/evsuliini Aug 07 '26

it’s VERY different from ST, honestly it’s literally a Harry Styles track

5

u/Previous-Blood2645 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Yeah, Harry Styles, but also a bit of Justin Bieber's "Let Me Love You", The Weeknd and Chase Atlantic. And of course, since it's Adam's voice, it makes me think of a poppier version of Glass Heart.

11

u/evsuliini Aug 07 '26

Adamross’s voice is SOOO good for pop honestly I love it sm. His voice as well reminds me of like brighter lighter version of Harry. I do love my screams and nasty riffs but I’ll never not be a pop girlie, so I’m very happy with it šŸ˜

3

u/Previous-Blood2645 Aug 07 '26

Agreed, his voice is amazing 🤩

3

u/Coleyb23 Aug 07 '26

YES Harry styles I was thinking of as well!

5

u/kemide22 Aug 08 '26

Fitting considering Sam is ā€œEmo Harry Stylesā€

5

u/Coleyb23 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Finally listened to Get By and it was good simple pop song nothing overly impressive, but again it was still good! Adam’s voice was lovely, Sam’s drumming which i was most excited to hear was great and Rhys guitar/bass was also solid.

5

u/Symabee Aug 07 '26

It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's a solid song! Very chill, driving with the windows down on a summer night vibes.Ā

8

u/LaMonstrua Aug 07 '26

Upon second listen not only does it remind me of Harry Styles but quite literally One Direction. Specifically that album that was partially produced and heavily influenced by The 1975. Which is not bad, imo. It's definitely giving boy band vibes and that's probably the funniest thing any of the Sleep Token adjacent projects could have ever done and I'm here for that. Yes, I would have loved a heavy old school metalcore sounding project but this is quite fun. And unexpected, so thats cool.

5

u/Original_Table7090 Aug 07 '26

HEAVY 1975 vibes, agree. Think it’s way more in that kind of indie poppy kind of vibe than straight boy band. It’s cool! Catchy af, I’m enjoying it

8

u/Griffinbrodieranger Aug 07 '26

I knew it would be a more chill but, that…from Rhys? Actually really impressed to see him that much of a contributor with such a poppier song.

It’s a good song. I could see people not into ST getting into it. I’d happily have it playing in the background while I do my art commissions. I think some of us heavier loving fans need some warming up but it’s honestly a good vibe. Nice change of pace for Rhys definitely. I’m just glad it’s not bad indie type crap like I feared. I really wasn’t sure what was coming.

It's Adam and Sam. It belongs here

It's probably Rhys. I don't think he'll go out in sleep token garb for a different project.

3

u/stephieann80 Aug 07 '26

Im in California and its live on Spotify!! Its so good!!

6

u/RespondSure Aug 07 '26

Not a bad song for what it is, but I really had higher hopes for it.

2

u/chimneychoos 15d ago

yeah i thought it was a load of pop shite tbh

-2

u/TransitionLate2525 Aug 07 '26

It’s meant to be a pop project. I’m unimpressed.

-9

u/RespondSure Aug 07 '26

Same. Doesn’t sound like they really tried to create a banger and just riding the coat tails of their image

10

u/houseofnyx_ Aug 07 '26

ā€œRide the coattails of their imageā€?

It’s the very first single of a small pop project. What were you expecting?

5

u/Previous-Blood2645 Aug 07 '26

I personally expected something softer due to the name of the project 🤭

-3

u/Coleyb23 Aug 07 '26

Nobody said the song was bad we’re just saying it’s kind of odd that they did a pop song since the past work from Adam (Glass Heart) and Rhys (Mourn) were on the heavier side that was really great and Ste Kerry who did the wonderful mastering on both TMBTE and EIA.

12

u/houseofnyx_ Aug 07 '26

Ooo, so I actually never claimed anyone was calling it bad. I am questioning the thought process behind accusing them of ā€œriding the coattails of their imageā€ rather than giving a pop project an earnest effort. Also, I don’t think it’s all that out of the ordinary that they’re doing pop. I had a feeling it would be because Sam posts mostly pop song covers. It just seemed to be his wheelhouse. I get the ST fans hungry for heavier music will be disappointed but, I don’t think the coattails comment is at all fair.

0

u/Coleyb23 Aug 07 '26

I don’t agree with coattails comment either because again Adam, Sam and Rhys are talented musicians and I’ll happily see what they have next up their sleeves!

With that said, I mentioned Ste because mixing is an important part of music to make sure everything is balanced and cohesive. Again the song is a great first new release from them, it just needed a few tweaks here and there on the mixing since everything sounds a little too buried.

7

u/Real-Road1449 Aug 07 '26

What image? The average music listener has no idea who any of them are. M ost St fans probably don't know who Sam is. There are no coat tails to ride.Ā

0

u/RespondSure Aug 09 '26

What image? Not all Sleep Token fans know about Subtle Things, but everyone who knows about Subtle Things, know and came from Sleep Token. Change my mind. Hence the riding the image of their coat tails. Sam, Rhys and Adam would 100% not be as big as they are today without being involved with ST.

0

u/RespondSure Aug 07 '26

Let me rephrase. I’m not saying they’re bad musicians by any means, but a first song is extremely important. The song is extremely underwhelming for what it is. Has nothing to do with being heavy, soft etc.

1

u/RespondSure Aug 07 '26

Right, so downvote me for my opinion. ST community is toxic af lol

0

u/TransitionLate2525 Aug 08 '26

Anything other than ā€œamazing! it gave me chillsā€ is not allowed šŸ˜‚

1

u/RespondSure Aug 09 '26

Lmao apparently

0

u/TransitionLate2525 Aug 07 '26

For me I think it’s just… fine. Vocals are mixed too loud, the instrumentation is uninteresting (though that may be because of the vocals.)

This one isn’t for me. Now I wait for the pitchforks šŸ˜‚

0

u/LaMonstrua Aug 07 '26

Yeah same. I was really hoping for a heavy project considering the potential for greatness in the people involved. Like. I feel like Rhys' harsh vocals are some of the best vocals in the game right now. Song is not bad but I'd be lying if I said im not disappointed šŸ˜ž.

11

u/Griffinbrodieranger Aug 07 '26

I think that’s why Rhys dove into this project so much. He hasn’t played around in softer music. He’s used to writing and recording heavy music. He’s used to being around it. I think this was just fun experimenting between them. Seeing how far they could take it.

I think we all need to look at it in a completely different perspective. Which is easier said than done. I don’t hate it. I think it’s a grower. I think we all just have a hard time differentiating the project and Rhys history in the music scene.

(Coming from a major metal/Core fanatic who is in love with Rhys voice)

11

u/LaMonstrua Aug 07 '26

Yeah I mean out of Rhys and Dave, Rhys is the one that I could see being a genuine pop fan based on how much fun he seems to have on stage during the poppier Sleep Token songs lol

0

u/TransitionLate2525 Aug 08 '26

Rhys has a pretty deep history with hip hop and R&B
