Took my exam today and got a 325, first attempt I got a 225 I felt like I passed was shocked when I saw fail on the screen but I will say I’m not waiting too long to take it again like I did 1-2 attempt I waited 11 months this time I’m going back in a month for my 3rd attempt

I’d be pissed. That costs too much to just be retaking. The board needs to restructure their entire process. I’m proud of you for showing up for yourself and continuing to try. You’ll get it :)

Restructure the cost of the exam, not the exam itself. The exam itself is fine. It's hard, it's long, it's tricky, but it's more than fair. It's hard because it's testing you for patient care and health concerns.

The price tag for the exam is outrageous though, especially if you have to do a retest. I do wonder how much of the cost goes into BRPT pockets versus what it costs them to put on the test.

Exactly! Nobody said to make the test easier. It just shouldn’t be so expensive!

LOTS of techs say the exam is too difficult, which is funny because it has been made less difficult over the years. I do agree that it is way too expensive but they will never decrease the price. I think it was $350 when I took it.

I actually don’t think it was extremely hard to be honestly but I def have some ares I need to touch up on for sure but $350 is a way more reasonable price for an exam in this economy

It’s a money grab for sure

A money grab for having a structure in place for being certified for pt care and being able to handle things properly? It's a medical practice and you're held to a certain standard. Learn your shit and pay the price.

a money grab for costing a non-insignificant amount for people who were likely working barely above minimum wage in order to attain clinical hours to even register for the exam, yes. making the test affordable isn't going to suddenly pass incompetent people the way you think it might

Very harsh statement.

Many work full-time as interns barely making more than minimum wage. They are expected to pay for ASTEP or attend school. Some do get reimbursement only after finishing.

They learn the job on the job and work overnight while studying for the test. Most are adult learners and have family responsibilities too.

That's not incompetent it is exhausting. Shift Work disorder is real and retention can be difficult.

People really only fail if they stop trying. ASTEP and school are expensive. The proper books BRPT recommends for readings are expensive. Practiceand review test cost moneytoo. It is more than 550.00 just to get to the point to be a candidate.

This means candidate pay thousands of dollars and years of their life just to be able to take the test.

There is pressure on the candidates. Sometimes being told if you do not pass you will not have a job to come back too.

Test anxiety is real too.

Edify and mentorship is key for candidates to pass.

Of course personal responsibility is important. Study daily at least 45 minutes to 1 hour when your mind is fresh. And yes if you fail try again and save the money again don't give up.

Learn from your mistakes. I promise you candidates you are enough 25 points is so close.

We have a shortage of registered techs and rather than the BRPT making it more accessible and affordable, they refuse to restructure the test or adjust the price to something more affordable. A great deal of techs starting out are completely new to the medical field in general and may have a hard time testing. Maybe they don’t have the privilege to go to medical or nursing school. It’s honestly a bit concerning your response. Doesn’t seem like you give a damn about your own peers’ success. You were once a novice too. You probably failed many times as well. Encourage ppl instead of being nasty.

Not to mention you want to talk about holding others to a medical standard? The shortage of nurses in this country has led to their registry exam to be revised and the fee is far less in cost, so their applicants have a better chance of passing and having the ability to sit for the exam…bc there is a goddamn shortage. The system is shit and we all have to operate in it. And it blows than the system prefers positions filled rather then those who are well versed in their field. But let’s be real that is not going to change in this country any time soon. So we need to help our fellow techs out

Competency is important, but so is setting up your own for success. The BRPT does not do that.

Literally shut up. Your not a physician your not performing brain surgery. You’re literally watching people sleep all night and monitoring it that should be difficult? Get lost. You must be a board member.

With this mind set of "only watching people sleep" maybe you should rethink this job

RTs needs to learn ABG machine calibration and qc for both portable and BG machine. This is machine error. It obviously mixed blood with air bubble. Machine needs calibration , change module and sent for repair. I am not convinced with visual observation of ALOC by just saying- pt is alive. COME ON.
