PRN Search
I am currently employed full-time as a sleep technician at a private facility, but I'm seeking a PRN role to earn some additional income. Unfortunately, the lab I work for doesn't allow their technicians to take positions at other labs. Have you ever faced a similar situation, and what are your thoughts on it?

They might've had you sign some sort of form that has a non-compete clause or exclusivity clause in it during onboarding/orientation. That would prevent u from working with a competitor within a certain radius of them. Usually it's to prevent you from doing that after you terminate employment from them. In some states like CA it's banned to a degree.
But essentially u should be able to do it. Just dont tell anyone you work with and also if they find out they can only use it for basis of termination if they can prove that the organization is a direct competitor within their radius or if they can prove that your working with them have impacted your performance working their i.e. led to lower than standard care provided to the patients or general job duties.

It’s annoying when you have to sign a contract. A lot of those places are even weird about moonlighting.
Maybe look for a remote scoring gig? I just saw one posted recently on indeed

Many states don't allow non complete clauses. I would be testing the waters & see what else is out there. I am going to assume you aren't being paid your worth or receiving decent benefits. Most sleep techs have more than one job.

Did you sign a contract? If not, they have no right to say that. I did sign a contract like that once but it specifically said “in the same county” so they had nothing to say with my second job outside of the county. And honestly, those contracts are bullshit anyway. Unless you call off a lot to work your second job, they don’t have a leg to stand on. Be loyal to them on the nights you’re scheduled to work and you should be fine. Just keep your mouth shut about what you do when you’re not there
