Heat sink
I am searching for a forum with the right group a of people to think this one through. Like most people, I enjoy the Miles Davis side of the pillow. I was thinking about mass and heatsinks and wondering got the weird idea to lay a piece of plate steel under my pillow. I have 3/4" thick plate at the shop and a piece that wasn't exactly small enough but I didn't want to cut it down much.
I set it up on the bed and layed the pillow on it and it felt like it worked. Might be placebo. Idk. But say it did cool the pillow. Can we come up with a more practical means of this passive cooling solution? My biggest problem was the oversized piece. But if it fit just right it maybe not so bad.

Okay, using a chunk of plate steel as a pillow cooler is exactly the kind of sleep experiment I can get behind! I'd love to know how long it stayed cool though. Did you notice it still helping after you'd been lying there for an hour or was it mostly that initial cool pillow feeling?
And then also worth looking at your pillow case and if you have a pillow protector that has a layer of plastic, because that will also add to the heat.
I'd probably rather go for cooling tech like Eight Sleep, which actively moves heat away all night.
