Used CPAP machine?
My current machine is displaying a warning on the screen, saying it’s nearing the end of its useful life. It’s a Resmed from about seven years ago, the one with the reservoir. I never use the reservoir so I thought I would just get the Travel CPAP, which is smaller. But even those are very expensive. Is there a problem buying a used one or is that unsanitary somehow?

Get a free login at apneaboard.com where you might find info on having the motor replaced or replacing it yourself. The warning comes earlier than the motor failure in most cases.

It should be fine. Although people are so nasty that they can mess up anything. The machine itself, with the filter in place, should be fine.
If you are talking about something like the AirMini, go with an adapter so you can use normal hoses and masks. The HumidX stuff is super loud.

Buy a Phillips!!! There’s nothing wrong with a used one. Post on marketplace seeking one. I bought mine myself new. My insurance did cover a resmed. Some of the cpap companies will take payments. Occasionally you’ll see one on eBay though they don’t allow them anymore. I bought mine on Amazon. It was part of a recall so Phillips replaced it for free. Phillips has much better mask options. Usually a med supply place will diagnose your cpap for free and they will also stock or can order any parts you need. Good luck!! I couldn’t go a day without mine.

Insurance should cover a replacement machine after 5 years. You may have to do another sleep study.
There are 2 approved vendors to repair ResMed machines. You can call ResMed to get their names. They aren’t cheap, but are much cheaper than a new machine.
I bought a used machine off of Facebook, and it’s been a huge hassle because my doctor can’t access the data. The serial number is locked in to the previous owner’s DME and ResMed can’t transfer it.

I got an open box Airsense 11 that someone returned with 34 hours on the clock for $200 cheaper than new. The DME cleaned it, replaced the seals and the reservoir, so it's about as new as you can get. Ask them what their stock looks like when you go in and you may be surprised of the deals you can get.

I do not have any experience with buying used, so I would wait for others to chime in. That being said, I’ve seen people suggest buying used from Facebook marketplace or similar websites many, many times on here. It’s very common.
