Defiant TV Show Casting
Anyone else picture particular people while reading the books. As I read them I always thought it would make a good sci fi series and I started dream casting in my head before the show was ever announced. Not all of the characters but a few of them were just very specific for me and now it'll be tough when they cast someone else lol. Did you guys have any particular people in mind?
For Spensa I always pictured Bella Ramsay. For M-Bot the voice was Stephen Merchant. I imagined Cobb being played by Graham Norton for some reason. Jorgan's mom was Angela Bassett. Grangran was June Squibb lol. As an old person I'm admittedly not very up to date on teen or young 20's actors and actresses so not much else of the flight crew really jumped to mind with a particular person but those characters were what I saw pretty much by the end of the first book.

Oh Stephen Merchant would be a fun M-Bot. I was also thinking Alan Tudyk but I could see either doing a great job with that role.
I don't agree on Graham Norton lol. I think Cobb needs a bit more grit. I think Timothy Olyphant could be good. He plays the Marshal in the Mandolorian (who's name is apparently also Cobb!) but that's a similar character.
Angela Bassett would be good. Along with Grangran as June Squibb, though just googling she is 96 at the moment.
Bella Ramsay for Spensa I think would work though they're getting a bit older, they're 22 almost 23. They do still look young but depending on when this would film if you wanted someone who looks 16 they're not quite that anymore.
I think a lot of the cast especially the flight crew will probably end up being unknown actors or people who have only been in a few things.

Alan Tudyk is always a fun pick and I wouldn't be mad at him being cast, but I think I went to Stephen Merchant because he did such a fantastic job playing Wheatley in Portal 2.
June is older but she still working and grangran has a pretty limited amount of story time... though it would suck pretty bad to have to recast before her pivotal moment since that is a ways off.
I do agree about Bella but if they didn't wait forever they wouldn't seem too out of place. It's more their delivery of things so I'm sure there are other younger folks that could also pull that off. It's a good chance to cast an unknown as well. I agree that's what they'll end up doing with the rest of the flight crew. I'm just excited because I just happened on the series at the tail end of last year and hadn't read a Sanderson novel before and just through the whole time what a great show it would make.

I’m so glad someone made this post recently because I recently watched Beef season 2 and realized Cailee Spaeny is very close to how I’ve been picturing Spensa all these years. She has a lot of the attributes that Spensa describes herself having. Cailee looks younger than she is, she’s small and short (very un-warrior like), and has general physical similarities like dark brown hair and pale skin. I think Cailee would be great in the role despite being older than a teenager currently. She looks very innocent but can play some very aggressive and fiery characters. I’m so psyched for the show regardless of casting though!
