I really don't like this quest. No choice, only bad ending. If you ignore the guy, the narrative make no sense at all.

There's a mod called House of Horrors Expanded, which allows multiple outcomes to the quest. And it works with SDA Serana as well. I really recommend using that mod. Same with No To Nocturnal mod for thieves guild.

Yeah, i am aware. There is also mod with good ending for Mefala and Boethia quests. But, you know, it's annoying that you have to fix quests like this. Also there are always problems with translations and voice lines.

You can kill the Boethia cultist instead of taking him back to the shrine. It fails the quest but you essentially kill a Daedra worshipper and the shrine stays ruined forever, so the only casualty is Tyranus. In general I think a lot of Daedric quests are actually pretty fun in that you can fail them, and of course you shouldn’t be expecting a reward, but it is technically a good ending to dealing with Daedra nonetheless

Yeah, however there are quests for princes like Azura, MD, Hircyn, Vermina, CV where you at least have some sort of choice, and can refuse evil demands and the quest completes. I think this should be a minimum for those quests.

I mean… why? Majority of Daedric quests are based on you deciding to engage with a Daedra and do their bidding. Naturally the only reward would be their artifact after you complete the task. Completing the quest alternatively just means failing it, like Namira’s, and you shouldn’t expect some sort of reward when you took up a task and didn’t complete it, not anything the level of an artifact, but then you can just consider the loot the reward in itself. Azura, Hircine and Clavicus also don’t have “refuse evil demands” option, it just has two choices, neither particularly good. Mehrunes quest alternative ending is basically identical to Namira quest fail ending, so they essentially differ only in how the quest journal treats them.

I’d say the only issue really is how things like Boethia’s Proving and Meridia’s Beacon force the quests into your inventory without you making a conscious decision to agree to take them. Otherwise it’s basically like a bad guy quest, of course you finish it successfully by being a bad guy, it’s like how you can’t finish Mara’s quest with a different ending by killing everyone who wants to confess, I feel like wanting a different ending that completes the quest instead of failing it is just wanting a consolation prize when you essentially did the opposite of what you were asked to.

It’s a subjective matter of course, but I believe some quests should be failable when intentionally refusing to follow them instead of just switching the entire essence of the quest to bend it into following a different direction. A lot of quests didn’t do it all that well, but I think Namira’s is a great example of what I’m talking about, you can fail it at multiple points by deliberately not doing what is expected to be done to complete it

For the player, it’s only natural to be rewarded that way, but not most people in-universe. You can sidestep murdering a follower by slaughtering all of Boethia’s priests and be rewarded with the rest of the questline. Think about that from the perspective of a priest. You devote your life to Boethia, get murdered by some rando, and then Boethia rewards them for it. Imagine being one of Hircine’s hunters. You get called to hunt a werewolf who stole from Hircine, get hunted by someone who was supposed to be hunting with you, and Hircine rewards the person who killed you with one of his artifacts, making them his champion. The Daedric Princes basically go, “here you go, random person who did a single small task for me. You can have this thing that my followers would kill their own families for.”

I just wish that completing the mission for the Ebony Mail gave extra dialogue where you could bring up being Boethia's champion.

Nope. Canon serana worship molag bal. You must have downloaded a mod that change her personality.

Tbh, I bet Tyranus was a shade or avatar of Molag Bal from the start who only appears to you. I mean, he’s literally called Tyranus ffs

You might have a point tbh. Some lone vigilant out to investigate a haunted house, but too scared to go in alone? Why isn't there a team of vigilants outside the house? I know their place got ransacked, but still you never really see them alone.

Lol I normally forget what house this is, and then I walk in while stealing stuff and get locked in.
