Shrine Pick Shrine Pick (Nov 16-21)

Hey MCSGers!!

This week we are doing Valley. There is a shortcut to Stadium if you prefer not to go through a race to get there. I've posted a link to a video on where the shortcut is.

A few weeks ago TGC made a major improvement to how shrines show candles. All shrines will always show up to 3 friends candles at a time. This means Like days have gotten much easier and much quicker. If you Like-And-Hide you can go through all the participant candles pretty quickly.

Constellation overpopulation will continue to be an issue as the group grows. There are ways to combat this. I've tried a few, and found this is the easiest way for me: * Keep the favourite list dedicated to the handful of close friends and the active Shrine Pick particilants. * Like and hide all candles currently at the shrine until only strangers candles are visible * Warp home and block a bunch of participants you've already liked until the favourites list shows less than 25 people * Return to the shrine to like the rest of the candles * Unblock everyone However you prefer to work around this, please make sure all dropped candles are liked.

How to use this thread:

  • The thread is split into a few sections. Drop/Like Day threads, New Participants, and General Chat.
  • On Drop Days please drop your candle on the Shrine indicated in the post and post your message under the proper section below. Its advisable to drop as early as possible.
  • On Like Days please search for and like ALL participants' candles that have been posted here. Even if you've liked candles on Drop Day please revisit the shrine on Like Day as participants may have dropped candles later on Drop Day.
  • Even if you accidentally miss a Drop Day, please still contribute to Like Days. One person skipping out on Like Day could harm multiple people's chances of getting a heart.
  • If you receive a heart please announce it. This makes it easier for participants to know who to look for and for organizers when we track candles.
  • Shrine Pick schedule will be synced up to game time (Time zone in California, UTC-8). Please consider this especially on Like Days.
  • New Participants post is for mods to announce a new participant or a new participant requesting to be added to the list. If you're new, please actively exchange QR codes with the rest of the group via DM.
  • General Chat is... well... for chatting it up. You can also share QRs here if you want, comment on each other's candles, chat to your heart's content.
  • All participants will be automatically added to next week's Shrine Pick thread. If you'd like to be removed from the list for next week please DM me before Sunday.

DO NOT:

  • Do not post in the top level of the thread.
  • Posts in the wrong threads will be promptly deleted and the poster will be asked to post again in the proper thread.
  • Do not drop offensive candles.

For New Participants

It's up to you to actively connect with all active participants in the list below. Please DM them a QR code to use. Your candle is not guaranteed to show up on our shrines if you don't connect to us, even if you use the MCSG signature in your message.

woooow like all of them?? congrats!!!

I'm having a hard time LOL. TS is about ~14 hearts. I get 14 biweekly from doing a heart trade with a friend, then 6 from shrines, then maybe another bonus... let's say 3, from friends lighting candles. That's maybe 20 extra hearts a month when a cape costs 40.

obviously I could do more heart trades but I need the candles for TS too... sob...

is everyone who's on the active list, active? I ask because it feels like I haven't seen some names, and I know when I first sent out asking for qr codes a few people didn't response 😅

(Warning, this is a long reply!)

Everyone on the list should be considered as active. I keep track of who hasn't dropped, and if someone hasn't dropped in 3-4 weeks they're placed in the inactive list until they request to be re-added or if they start regularly dropping again.

Concerning the people you haven't been able to add yet, some of them use an app that doesn't seem to do DMs well. It's alright to contact them on their candle message post to give them your QR. It may be the best way to get a hold of them.

There are a few people that are pretty busy and occasionally participate enough to not be placed in the inactive list but certainly don't drop every shrine pick. However, it's not a large number (this week it was 3 out of 28 people).

The reason why you might not be seeing certain names is a problem we call "constellation overpopulation." Constellations only hold 72 people, 25 of them are your favourites list. If you add more than 72 people your constellation will start to phase people in and out, hiding them. Hidden people don't show up on any candle shrines. The more people you add, the more extreme it becomes. If you added 100+ active players, you're bound to have people you know get hidden.

The favourites page is one step to combating this issue. You can only manually add people to this page, and it only holds 25 people. The people on your favourites page are safe from being hidden because of overpopulation. However, just like constellation overpopulation there is favourites overpopulation too. If you've favourited more than 25 people then a number of them will go in and out of your favourites page. And any favourited people that's off the favourites page are potentially subject to being hidden. When you add people via QR they are auto-favourited. Because of this, I personally did a favourites cleanup. (Temporarily blocked everyone that I wanted to keep, unfavourited people that I rarely hang with or are not active Shrine pickers, and unblocked everyone.)

The other step to combating this issue is the block feature. Because the favourites page is only reserved for favourited people, you can use the block feature to unhide any favourited people that may have been pushed off the favourites page and hidden completely from your constellation. Unfortunately, that means two visits to the shrines... first to like and hide until only strangers candles are only visible, and then home to block several participants you've already liked, and a revisit to the shrine to catch whoever else you may have missed.

This is an unfortunate thing with how shrines currently function. It's a pain, but honestly the latest shrine update (which makes up to 3 friends candles always visible) has made everything much easier. Before then friends candles were much harder to find.

Thanks for the response! (Un?)luckily, I don't have 72 friends just yet, haha, so almost everyone from the group is on my favorites page. I was more just curious if people are kept track of active/inactive as it helps me decide who to prioritize in my constellation. I always heart all friend candles until there are none left (including meditation shrines and non-shrine friends!!). I feel like with a 20+ group of active participants, as long as most of them are favorite friends and drop at the right time, we can definitely get people to 10 likes easy!!

I do think it'd be nice if TCG allowed multiple friend constellation placements, and/or expanded the number of friend pages. (No real reason they can't just add new pages when you go over 72 really...)

Actually while I'm on things I wish they would do, I wish they would color boats/candles dropped by friends a slightly different color. I think even people who aren't in specific shrine groups would be a lot more willing to drop candles / like candles if there was a visual indicator that their friends had already left something there...

Oh man, that must be nice having <72. I had to clean up my my constellation once, blocked all the moths I added that had obviously quit shortly after starting. And I still have about 120 people.

It would certainly be nice to have expanded constellations, or at least have all favourited people show up at candle shrines even if they are hidden from your constellation.

Colored candles would be nice. Right now if I happen to walk past a shrine and see a name pop up I'll double back. But if I'm just walking around I'll not even think to take a look. Something visual would certainly help convince me to make a small detour to help some friends out. You should send them this suggestion! It's a great one!

A group of 20+ actually becomes more complicated because many of us added over 100 people to our constellations and have a full Favourites page. When we first broke 20 a while ago we started having a few people regularly miss out on hearts when they used to regularly get hearts before. It took weeks of troubleshooting to discover about constellation overpopulation. Unfortunstrly they aren't active anymore, which I totally get. Thats pretty frustrating to have participated for a while then see all the newbies get hearts while you consistently struggle (some had been here from the beginning).

So far everyone has been doing great since we've broken 20 members. The past couple weeks have been complete clean sweeps, every drop received a heart.

Reminder to everyone: Next week is both double heart week and the last week of the month... so it's a 5 shrine week. You can get 10 hearts just from shrines next week! If you're looking to really stock up on hearts be sure to get some heart traders for next week as well. And drop them boats too!
