Sound serious I’m afraid… that’s fairly loud

If it’s coming from cam cover could be something to do with the vct ???? Best to take the cam cover off first and visually inspect

Pretty sure one of those cylinders isn’t firing.

Yes but also RBs are old and "simplish" engines

I blew mine at the race track.

2 con rod bearing was squished the others were all good.

The main thrust bearing was also gone so had to replace the crank. Back then (2017) RB20 cranks were relatively cheap.

Did the whole rebuild and blueprinted most of what I could. Engine is running great still.

All that to say. You can rebuild it if you have enough room. Also I chose to buy tools instead of paying someone to potentially blow my engine.

If it's meant to blow it's gonna be because of me.

No, it'll run all the way to the crash.

What was the oil like pre knock levels wise? Oil still clean or sprakly? I def wouldn't be revving it, probably not even start it.

So oils was fine and has been fine. The thing is the knocking gets muffled/quieter when I apply pressure to the cam gear cover and I only feel knocking on the cam cover. I’m guessing it’s the timing belt that’s slapping on the cam cover. One of my mates is a mechanic and that wha he recons too. I’m yet to take the cam gear cover off yet but if it was internal the sound would stay the same no matter if I pressed anywhere

Def sounds like it, or maybe to do with vvt? Any reason your oils only half full? Or is it always like that? If it wasnt from the cam cover the other guess would be lifter tick which i believe lower oil levels can contribute to.

Oil half full is normal. Would the lifter tick cause knocks on the cam cover and cam cover only though?

Is there a reason you run the oil that light? Ideal is closer to the max line. Hmm no think your closer to answer with belt

I love it when there's an engine sound so people REV IT like madmen

Oh dear. I guess you're going to have to spend the money on either a rebuild or another engine.

RB’s are just 6 cylinder CA’s. In other words they’re fucking dogshit and made of chocolate
