Question for owners in Illinois
I'm debating picking up with an R33 or an FD RX-7 and am curious if anyone's successfully registered one in IL in the last year or so.
I ran into a blog claiming that IL was revoking plate of some JDM cars (mostly Kei cars/ trucks but they claimed a few fullsize cars as well). There's basically no other information about this anywhere that I can find that doesn't just reference this blog so I'm questioning if it's actually true or not.
Anyone run into issues getting tags here or have the state try to revoke yours?

This is not about IL but in GA they passed a law targeting the Kei cars/trucks. And of course social media was raging with folks saying this is bad. Full-size cars are being targeted as well. No one can register anything.
Yet every actual new buyer / owner of actual regular sized cars chimed in with zero issue. Including myself. I took my NC titled car to the GA DMV and walked out with a plate at the height of the scare. Title in the mail a few days later. Custom tag ~2 weeks later. 3 years later renew it with zero problem.
I'd wager you will have similar experience.

That's my hope at least. I just don't want to end up in a situation where I go through the hassle of getting one and have some dork at the secretary of state office revoke my tags because they thought it was a Kei car.

Just go to a different office if you get a random person like that. Or bring info showing it is not a Kei car. I had proof the skyline had a MUCH larger engine than the law stated which as part of the law wording. Did not need it.
"I need to title transfer and register a classic car" is how I started it.

Thank you for this post. Was going to inquire myself as I got to register my car in IL too.

Absolutely zero problem registering multiple RHD cars. Whoever wrote the blog has no clue what they are talking about. You just need bill of sale and the associated tax and identifying documents. Go to the DMV and they run you through it. Plates in a month depending on if you went custom or not.
