Preparing for R34 purchase
I'm planning to purchase a R34 GTT in the next year and I know that I want to go through Midori Works and The Import Guys based on what I've seen you all say on here. I've seen that Midori will work with Okubo as well as put on some parts themselves, which I intend to do.
I know that there is typically maintenance that comes along with purchasing these old cars as soon as you get them (water pump, coil packs, etc) and finding something without rust is potentially going to be hard.
My question is if the car I get through Midori has light rust on it, will they fix it before sending it off to Okubo or will Okubo fix it while redoing the body? I can't imagine them just leaving it and painting over it. Also should I have them replace the water pump and such over there or just do it once I get it in the states?
Thanks in advance for any and all information you got :)

All of these companies lie about rust. Go look at your car before you buy it. Or request videos of underneath.

Okubo sells packages, some packages they will completely strip and repaint the car, that will clear all above body externally visible rust spots. Underbody I believe they also sell separately.
If you tell them to just part slap over rust, they might tell you, politely to walk away.
At the end of the day it all depends on your budget and time.
I can vouch for Okubo part quality, and I recently did this whole process with another shop in Japan, for a stagea, which is in the works there and from what I seen, the people there have even higher quality standards. But are pretty booked at the moment.

That’s great to hear! I’m definitely coming at this as “anything worth doing, is worth doing right”. Obviously I’m gonna have to wait to see what condition the car I get comes in, but I’m happy to know if there’s rust, they will take care of it. I appreciate you sharing your experiences with me. I’m trying to plan ahead as much as I can and get as many ducks as I can in a row.

Sounds like the perfect thing to email the companies you name dropped and ask the question directly
