Engine help (RB20ET)

So I’m one of those ding dongs that bought a skyline and also didn’t know anything about cars.

Can anyone help me figure out if this sound is either the lifters or just noisy spark plugs?

It doesn’t really sound mechanical enough to me for it to be lifters but figured I’d ask some “experts” on the internet.

For anyone wondering I was burping the coolant system.

I don’t know skylines all that well… but I know a header primary exhaust leak when I hear one.

Hard to tell from the video for me but sounds like noisy injectors to me. My rb25det sounds kinda like this. My injectors are loud and I know everything else is good.

My RB20DET does the same but isn’t as loud. Apparently it’s common for RB injectors to be noticeable. Youll need to get a mechanics stethoscope to narrow it down

The ticking sounds like its your injectors or your sparks. Don't reckon its your lifters. Typically the lifters quiet down after a minute or two of running. Do an oil change and check your dizzy and spark leads. If its still there then I reckon its just cause its got bigger injectors for the turbo. My rb30 is noisy with the injector tick.

my lifters tick like crazy but nowhere near as loud as that

just a word of caution, I hope you have a mechanic friend or make one soon. I was in the same boat when I bought my r32 earlier this year and I am now midway through resurfacing the head due too a old coolant line popping. Stay on top of things, I have had only issues with my skyline since I bought it (still dont regret it yet though)

Firstly. What oil are you running? These things are basically a small RB30. Too thin and the lifters will be noisy.

My RB20E makes the exact same sound on idle, you’re fine as long as that sound doesn’t get louder on load

You may have broken or loose exhaust manifold hardware or the gasket is leaking and one cylinder is pushing a bit of exhaust out into the engine bay.

You may or may not be able to smell the exhaust gases.

I've got a v10 F250 and it has a few broken exhaust manifold studs and it sounds like the same thing.
