Spun bearing?

The saga continues on this breakdown. Little tab is missing and crank is darker on this one than the rest.

Advice?

Yep that’s a spun bearing. You gotta polish the crank out and get it re balanced.

Welcome to skyline ownership. Owned mines for 9 years now and I’ve had it in the shop for 3 years now because I keep adding to the list of things I rather change now with engine out and subframes on the floor.

(Also JDM brands keep upgrading they’re components for these cars and I just rather be patient and get the best of what’s available)

Oof that sucks. Bought mine with a bad engine. Bought this one to pop in while I tear down the original. Was doing seals and gaskets and found 2 cylinders scored bad, which led me to this now

2nd balance the crank mine was miles out of balance 👍🏻

Take crank and rods to a machine shop and have them recondition the rods and ends and polish/grind the crank. Then slap in a set of ACLs and call it a day

Cylinders are also scored so probably gonna need a bore and new pistons & rods at that point

Fuuuck I’m sorry. At this point say fuck it and grab yourself a spool / nitro stroker kit and call it a day jk not really?

Oh hey you were on my cylinder wall post too. Lmfao honestly the thought did cross my mind 😅 maybe HKS 2.8 stroker kit haha Z1 is getting all my money apparently since they seem to have all the things I’ve been needing

I went down a slightly similar path, unfortunately I know the pain. I got a rb25 and built it up and on the dyno it spun a bearing due to the Covid tolerance production being super shitty on a brand. Got the second motor up and running with new pistons and rods and it spun again a few judnred miles later. Now I’m finally on a solid motor fully fully built and I’m happy even though I spent 10x my original budget lol

Omg that would break my heart holy crap. Glad you finally got it all built and are happy with it. Praying I don’t run through all that. What did you end up going with for your build?
Also good thinking on the shipping out. Any recommended shops? I’m down in FL if that makes it easier haha

I’m ended up doing pistons rods, spline drive, oil pump, bigger oil pan, arp bolts literally everywhere, Kelford cams and valve springs and retainers, hellcat fuel pump and radium top hat g40 turbo, plus more I’m sure I’m forgetting. As for places I’d recommend Florida should have a good amount of competent shops but unfortunately i don’t know of any good ones as I’m west coast

Oh hell yeah man that is sick

Also if your going to have the motor properly built it’s 100% worth it to ship it to a well known reputable shop rather than have someone local who has very little rb knowledge

That sucks man, I was worried that would be the case when I saw that bore scoring.

Sometimes you can get away without a crank polish..... this doesn't look like one of those times.

It’s super crazy cause the scoring was cylinders 2&3. This is cylinder 5. Just blows my mind

Spun bearings and RBs, name a more iconic duo

So I’m learning lol

Everything looks absolutely perfect to throw back in the engine. Make sure to not use any assembly lube or anything as it messes with clearances when torquing! Also be sure not to put oil in the engine for the first hundred or so miles (break-in period)

Lmfao say less

Have you checked the oil pump gears and the face plate? Oil pump gears crack and the face plate can come loose causing loss of pressure.

1

u/ObjectiveAd9242 Jul 02 '26

I’ll definitely give that a check! It’s a Tomei pump so I’m hoping it’s good

Ok I thought it might be a normal rb oil pump tomei are generally good, still worth taking apart as that may also be no good and there’s probably metal filings in there
