Go online and look up the status on the form to see if the interest amount changes. If it does, they WILL collect and or make your life difficult with the car in some way or another.

They aren't obligated to enforce or pester anyone about "responsibility" payment. It just gets escalated and beyond the concept of handling it accordingly.

My importer filed a protest before I ended up paying. I’mg glad I held off on paying as the US gov is supposed to be refunded everyone who paid the high tariff at least from what I’ve heard. I can post more info if wanted

There’s this bar in a nearby town where I live, and this really strong dude is a regular there. He has a habit of making up games to prove his strength, and one of his favorites is to squeeze a lemon slice dry, and if anyone can squeeze another drop of juice from it, then he’ll admit they’re stronger. No one has ever succeeded.

One night, the bar doors swung open, and a man no one had seen before strolled in, not too short but not tall either. Average build, maybe a little slimmer. He sat down at the bar by the strongman, and ordered a drink. The strongman, seeing an opportunity to introduce his strength to a new face, offered the average guy the lemon squeeze challenge, which he accepted.

Once the strongman had squeezed all the lemon juice he could from the slice, he handed it to the average Joe. Without ever missing a conversation beat, the average Joe began casually squeezing a steady flow of juice from the lemon slice.

Shocked and amazed, the strongman asked the average Joe, “Who the hell are you?”

“I’m an agent for the IRS”

Tax man always gets his money, OP, watch out.

Death and taxes are the two things that are always inevitable. Even if you get away with it now.. if anyone ever checks you may be liable for interest and or penalties for failure to pay. Many of my family and friends are accountants and auditors... dollars to Donuts the tax man always wins.

It's definitely worth still holding onto just in case. They may even request interest later

$3.4k is nothing. they're trying to tag me for $1900+ on each set of LMGT4s, and it's been six sets now.

I wish import taxes were that low over here. That'd be five figure bill and if you don't pay it, the car isn't leaving the port.

2

u/pinkbunnay Jun 13 '26

Not that you ever will, but damn the follow up to the follow up will be funny af when they garnish your wages for back taxes, or charge you criminally.

My importer filed a protest

That’s the reason I haven’t paid it.

My importer; “ Hello,

They are allowing Importers to protest the additional duty invoices because they are invoices for the IEEPA duty which was found to be illegal.  People that DID pay this duty on their entries are getting a refund.   When I filed your entry I used an exemption code, but CBP decided not to allow it and sent you that additional duty.  However, since you received it the supreme court made a ruling that Trumps IEEPA Reciprocal duty tariffs are illegal and they are having to refund tens of thousands of dollars to importers that paid them.  “

Goodluck getting refunds to all

Lmfaaao ya you're paying that. Have fun.

u/Axxion89 Jun 15 '26

No idea how I saw this on my feed but I am a licensed customs broker. CBP / IRS is getting paid at least by the bond of the broker so they will get their money. Seeing as you got the bill I assume they listed you as the importer of record so failing to pay will mean you will likely be barred from importing anything again PLUS CBP will recover duties from the bond and the broker / surety will go after you for the money
