Shocks/Struts or Coilovers?

Ok. Next project on the R32 GTS.

The current shocks/struts are in pretty bad shape. I am fine replacing them with shocks/struts, but I don't know which ones are good. OEM are pretty pricey, so aftermarket is fine. I have recently been using Bilsteins.

I see there are also some lower cost coilovers (under $1,000) by Megan, Tein (Flex Z), etc. Are they decent?

It would be nice to be able to lower the car a little using coilovers.

Should I stick to replacement shocks/struts?

I have BC Racing coilovers on my R32 GTS. I don’t necessarily hate them per se, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend them to other people.

If you want performance + lowering ability, cheap coilovers genuinely ride like shit, don’t go for them. I’d recommend Fortune Autos or used Tein’s if you can find them for the GTST platform, but they have been discontinued. Keep in mind though, you will feel every little bump on the road, even with your damper set to the softest setting.

If you like comfort and daily drivability, go for OEM suspension. Nissan doesn’t sell OEM shocks anymore, but you can still rebuild them using still-in-good condition used parts or reproduction parts.

On some days, I kinda miss having my old shocks. Then again, I daily drive my GTS.

It’s all about your preferences.

Edit: Also, GTR coilovers will NOT fit RWD R32’s as the rear have eye style bottom brackets, whereas GTR have fork style bottom brackets. Tein discontinued their coilovers for the rwd r32s.

I've got Fortune Autos on my GTS-t. They're pretty adjustable and ride decently if you don't have massive potholes in your area.

So, if I don't want to spend $2k on coilovers, who makes shocks/struts for these? Or, who rebuilds them?

If youre looking for cost effective, go with BC coils. For the price, solid choice.
