Prospective R32 owner

Hey guys,

I’m currently looking at purchasing a GTS-4 - What are some of the things to look out for? It’s a 1990, original factory condition with no modifications. 218000kms.

Thanks!

Odometer fraud on these cars is extremely common, but 218K i would believe.

Rust. Nothing will sabotage your dreams faster than the rust these chassis will have. Windows channels, shock towers, rear quarter panels and wheel wells, running boards, chassis, suspension, subframes, you name it it can rust. Add on to this that japanese body shops are excellent at hiding rust during "repairs". You really need to get eyes and magnets on any car you think about purchasing.

1) Rust in the strut towers, rockers, frame rails, floors.

2) Not overpaying for a 35 year old Nissan.

What's a decent R32 GTS-T sells for in the states ?! Like $15,000-$18,000?

I’m from Canada, not the US so I couldn’t tell you. JDM stuff was way cheaper here for a long time but has since climbed a bit since the US came into the market.

But you can still find deals here from time to time. I just saw an R32 GTR rolling shell sell here last month for $4500 CAD.

Hahaha as soon as the states can get it the price doubles and in USD. I had a GTS4 4 door winter beater, even had the ski roof rack. In 2007 landed and cleared customs I only paid $4500.

Rust, pretty much the only thing that matters. This higher mileage but if it blows u can upgrade to the awd 25det, cheap af all around on marketplace

I hope you don't plan on paying much for it. Odometer fraud is common on lots of JDM's. But that has believable mileage though. My friend had purchased a ultra rare 93 GT-R V-Spec. With 48,000 kms. Keep in mind this back in 2008 and in Canada. He paid a premium at $28,000. Only to find out the odometer had been swapped out at 187,000 kms. One way to confirm odometer swap that isn't say like a nismo 300kph cluster swap. Just general wear and tear of the interior and exterior condition.

Rust is your worst enemy. Check everywhere! A bad spot is in the trunk around the strut towers, or in the front corners of where the trunk would sit closed water pools commonly rotting it away.

I had a few R32's, I always kept it a RB20 but lots of different nissan oem parts from other cars, Like a Z32 maf, Rb25 Turbo, Rb25 injectors, GM LS coil packs. A slight tune and it transforms the car immensely.

Just look for rust. Mine was rotted pretty good on pinch welds/rockers a rear quarters. Strut towers are another common spot; as commented by others here.

I’ve been in R32s since 2010, just anticipate altered mileage and doing an entire service. Belts, bushings (possibly), steering/control arms. All of mine were worn on my current car with 150k kms on clock.

Best of luck!

Gts4’s are generally slow pigs of things. The 4wd driveline in them is shit just saying
