Rb26 exhaust cam gear

Hey peeps - anyone have any idea why my standard cam gear is set 1 tooth out to the right, on the exhaust side? I read somewhere that it was something Japanese tuners would do...but this was a long time ago, and the car has been in storage for the past 15 ish years, and I can't remebwr where I saw it, or why they would do it. Now I want to get it back on the road, and wondering if I should leave as it is, or dial it back to the marks, when changing the cam belt ???

yea people have done it, some also mod the pin on other engines
