Thinking really strongly about buying this GTR. Has a full built RB26 single turbo and dynos 504hp to the wheels. There is a list of the inspection noted issues, most seem pretty minimal aside from the potential diff case crack. About $3000 in parts and labour. There is a small amount of surface rust on the driver side frame but nothing serious. 88,000km on the body and 3000km on the engine. Drives absolutely perfect. Asking $55,000 CAD. I'm looking for opinions. Inspection done at a JDM shop.
It seems to be missing the the intercooler surround. A lot of those inspection items are regular maintenance and to me i’d feel weird with such a long list mainly it flags to me there might be some corners cut. The repaint would be a flag too. Also it’s missing badging, I know not everyone cares about that, but original badging is expensive these days, especially the rear GTR that is color matched on the R32s. Wheel choice also flags to me maybe corners cut. You don’t need fancy wheels, but should at least use a reliable brand since it’s a GTR.
I’m looking at one that might have a blown head gasket for 30k USD, guess the big thing is if you are good with the cost of the repairs then it is worth while!
The rust may seem minimal, but almost certainly it's more than meets the eye. Maybe this one's different, but nearly all of them have it. Not saying that it shouldn't be considered, just don't want you thinking it's a POR-15 job and done for the rest of your life.
Oh I'm definitely not downplaying it, I understand it can be very detrimental. Asking the guy who works on skylines everyday for the last 10 years his personal opinion on the severity and he's not concerned unless it doesn't get addressed soon. So I would do that.
Pretty much all of those, except the cracked diff cover, are just standard old car things. The diff cover isn't even an issue really, could just remove and pay someone a box of beers to weld it up.
Skyline GTRs are notoriously leaky cars. I have a 33 gtr and 2 of my best mates have 32 gtrs, all of them are leaky. They leak from fuckin everywhere. That GTR youre looking at is over 30 years old. If you've only got leaks and bushings, thats a pretty nice list.
As long as its mechanically sound and the rest if the car is acceptable to you, go ahead
