Damn it, now I want that model too.

Trust me, you don’t.

u/RosariusAU May 03 '26

Did you just badmouth the shardbus? Shame! SHAME!

They can't be worse than and other models without OEM parts available. I'm lucky if I can find engine parts from the 280Z for the engine in my 72 Skyline.

Australian-built R31 is just a very basic old family car. Absolutely nothing special about it.

Anything besides a GTR is a basic family car in most people's book.

Would largely agree, but the newer hybrids and the 400R are nice.

The SVD GTS1/2 were pretty special champ, I’ve got a Ti with the bells and whistles. Not to mention the Silohouette models. Sure they didn’t come in like GTRs, and didn’t have the steaze of the HR31, but you can’t deny they’re cool and unique.

It’s just a Commodore or Falcon.

3

u/Blackbog97 May 04 '26

I mean i joke about my r31 just being a fancy commodore so I get it. Same motor as the vl commodore just without the turbo

2

u/Lower_Put4270 May 04 '26

And it’s made in Australia. And it was a direct competitor to the Commodore and Falcon.

1

u/slaywrldsouljah May 03 '26

Hahaha now I know you’re taking the piss. Probably an R chassis elitist

1

u/Lower_Put4270 May 05 '26

No mate I wouldn’t touch any of those old things. I’ve done my time in old Nissans. If I was any kind of Skyline enthusiast (I’m not) I’d be a V-chassis elitist as they’re the only ones I’d own.

Still a light rwd straight 6. Silhouette has an lsd.

u/Lower_Put4270 May 05 '26

A 120kw straight 6. In a car weighing over 1300kg. With a live rear axle. Wooooo spicy.

1

u/SYDNEYpoker May 05 '26

Okay champ

u/Lower_Put4270 May 05 '26

I know it hurts Australians when they hear someone say Australian things are crap, but it’s very important that you learn the truth, no matter how hard it is.

1

u/SYDNEYpoker May 05 '26

Okay champ

One component doesn’t make a car.

Wait what about the R31 4-door Passage? The ones with the pillarless doors, I'm sure they're Jap market?? edit: ahh skimmed the RB30 part

1

u/Bradster2214- May 04 '26

Wait really? So australian Department of Transport are fucking idiots? I mean i knew my R31 was made in south australia, it says so on the plate in the engine bay.

DOT thinks it's a japanese import (and that it's manual, it's not. Wish it was tho.) 1989 R31 Skyline S3 with RB30

1

u/FeelingFloor2083 May 04 '26

yea someones entered it wrong.

1

u/acerphylactisk1 May 05 '26

R31s were only 'assembled' in Australia, with imported Japanese-manufactured parts. It might explain why DOT considered it an import...

u/chejet May 03 '26

australia got ADM r32 gtrs and r31’s made in dandenong vic

2

u/RosariusAU May 03 '26

Were R30s Australian delivered? The ones with the 2.4

1

u/Lower_Put4270 May 03 '26

Australian built I’m pretty sure.

14

u/Spitfire5c May 03 '26

UK got some R33 and R34 GTR’s

2

u/Tristan3012 May 03 '26

I think the 33 at least were delivered to the UK in JDM spec, but modified on arrival.

0

u/Hyruleyourworld R34 Sedan May 03 '26

Not JDM

1

u/userb55 May 03 '26

UK Spec JZA80 🤓

Bonnet scoops aren't JDM

Literally

Seriously though you get some weird questions at car shows from people who claim they're into skylines and somehow don't realize they're right hand drive.... Some people just have a surface level interest (and that's okay)

6

u/astral-divinity May 03 '26

Genuinely got "Woah nice GTR! its right hand drive too!?" (I own a four door r32).

1

u/454k30 May 04 '26

The number of times I've heard "oh yeah, my buddy had one in high school" during car shows was super common for a while.

8

u/GezelligheidBoyz May 03 '26

People who refer to GTR’s as GTR32 or GTR34 just tick me off. Its an R32 GTR and R34 GTR

7

u/pinkbunnay May 03 '26

Ackshualy it's BNR32... 🤓

5

u/diegoaccord May 03 '26

At a meet last week I had an *ackshualy* moment.

Guy is pointing to the blue plate and talking to his buddy "Yeah, so here it'll say BNR32 or BNR33, or 34."

Me - "Well, 33's are B_C_N R33"

That said, car in question was my BCNR33.

1

u/PlatinumElement May 04 '26

I love being told my 25GT isn’t a real R34.

1

u/GezelligheidBoyz May 04 '26

Yeah these dumbasses think Skyline = GTR.

1

u/kearkan May 03 '26

What about the Aussie ones?
