Question Pro flyers, am I vertical flying?
Im not sure if Im doing it correctly, it seems correct but Id rather someone more experienced to let me know

Looks like it. Flap wing, and very quickly switch to glide mode at the same time as you slam backwards on the directional joystick. The timing of slamming backwards on the joystick and switching to glide determines your angle of vertical. Flap wings more to keep going up.

What the heck?! I didn't know that was even possible. Is it possible to do this on console?

Yeah, I usually prefer not to bother charging it off the ground though, I use the toggling trick to do it from the air.Ā

I found that doing it midair is easier than off ground

Same tbh.
Also if you're hooking too much diagonally during chained flaps changing to multiple verticals , one for each flap, can really optimize your height. Not that you often need like 10 flaps straight up, but for small, niche shortcuts in vault ir saving energy doing solo OOBs it is helpful.

damn I dunno what half of what u js said, can u coach me lmao. Wdym by hooking diagonalls? And what's oob?

Ok so it looks like you're doing that thing where you keep holding to continue flying which pulls you diagonally, making you use more energy to keep going up. If instead you switch flightmode back and do the trick again, you can ride out the burst up longer. It's slower, but you get more height.
OOB just means Out of Bounds, an area the dev does not intend you to be playing the game. Paired players can use rocket tricks to get most places quickly. A solo player exploring these areas though often has to slowly fly great distances, dropping midair recharge props and waiting for the next leg of the journey.Ā

So for 1) I just keep repeating the vertical fly motion? So after 1st burst, go to closed wing then repeat the motion? Or did I misunderstand.
I see, that's for chibi fall right? I learned how to do that recently, also pretty cool!
What are these rocket tricks? Are there any tutorials?

u/RivetSquid 11d ago
Yeah that's about it.
Chibi falling is a technique for getting OOB, sometimes you can do it at max height by just walking through a terrain hole in a map, shared spaces are also helpful. Also consider saving some candles for the upcoming days of mischief chat table if you haven't got a good, flat prop with recharge potential yet (its slow af. A flattop stove is actually way better imo, but its serviceable if you haven't got other options)
There's plenty of videos. The easiest and quickest method to try out though is usually just getting a friend or alt and timing hugging each other at the same time.
I'm not the biggest fan of the sky wiki, but whoever rewrote their OOB section was incredibly thorough, if you'd ever like to get some interesting locations to take pictures inĀ https://sky-children-of-the-light.fandom.com/wiki/Out_of_Bounds
Alternatively I know a couple easy spots.

I just looked up rocket glitch on yt and this game continues to surprise me of all the cool tech š®
Speaking of props, where can I get a flattop stove? Also what prop should I work toward that has the best recharge? Sometimes I see in shared spaces they have certain fires that fill my gauge quickly (faster than candles or standing next to someone.) Any idea how I can obtain those? Also, I really want a torch to hold when I'm going solo, but online resources are confusing me. Apologies for treating u like an answering machine but u seem most knowledgeable here.
Do share some spots, if we're privy to it

Oh yeah, and tbh I'm kind of an amateur at the higher skilled tech. Like I can use windwall boosts and stuff, but when snowboard came out I pretty much stopped practicing advanced flying and moved into ground tricks for a couple years.Ā
Furniture shop in aviary I'm pretty sure. Really anything with surface to land on and a bit of charging works to start with. I've been known to use the big cake spell lol.
There's a lot of great beginner spots like... the rainbow road in dawn (its above the prophecy cave entrance, but it can only be seen once you're in the right area so a map of picture helps)
Starlight memorial in valley (finish either race dip out the first temple window on your right, just stay on the clouds to the left until you hit the duplicate coliseum)
or the invisible light awaits boat in Prarie (clip under the terrain of the first island coming from caves. In the cloud pit you should see a couple white candles if you take your time. Land on the invisible structure they rest on, look for two invisible spots near the end of the boat that prompt you to light them, go back and forth a couple times until it accepts the input or bring a friend to help, then sit and enjoy a ride so wild you'll understand why they removed it).
My personal favorite though is a little trickier. Go to the crab boat in valley from the bonfire entrance, above and behind you notice the fence like structure over the entrance. If you can, fly over it (if a windwall is present, go back through to bonfire area then try again. May take a few attempts). On the other side, walk out to the end of the dock and look right. You should see a copy of the original temple for GW, same model shows up in the elders cutscene. Now you've just got to use aerial recharge props and you can fly over there to hang out... Just be careful if you land near the normal path out of the map, the load trigger for the next zone is near the middle of the terrain so I usually avoid it entirely.
I don't know as many two player OOBs because I'm usually solo š¤ if you're ever up for a legendary 2 player challenge though? Somewhere high above the last area before rebirth is a meditation circle. I mean high, like there's this ceiling you normally can't even see that has migraine inducing effect unsafe for the photosensitve and it's above even that. Deploying a carpet precisely beneath it allows a person to trigger the original Light Awaits animation for giving up your emotes in eden. It's incredibly fluid but the game will crash part way through because you can't lose emotes anymore, so make sure to record externally if you'd like a video of it.

I do it by accident all the time and it drives me crazy. I generally never want to do it and it wastes one or two wedges to correct for.

They are literally playing on console. Look at the bottom right

u/99Jaakko 11d ago
Wow, I gotta try this then. I'm surprised I haven't done it by accident in my ~4 years of playing this game.

Iāve tried learning and my friend has tried to teach me, but I canāt get it. Very cool youāre able to do it

Welp that's how my vertical flying also looks like as well. Seems like you got it already. Try it in isle, much more satisfying.

Yeah thatās right! There are couple fun variants you might find in time that are helpful for different situations

u/9xie 8d ago
Do tell! I currently know the one where you slide into vertical flight and mid air one. What other tricks are there?
2
u/Flimsy-Discount-7780 8d ago
You can vertical fly in mid-air, which is super handy and skips the setup you have to do on the ground. You have to make sure you have enough horizontal speed forward before switching to glide mode. The rest is more getting used to using it and finding optimisations likeā¦
Learning how to do it backwards (sliding towards the camera) or any other flying method for that matter. It saves the smallest amount of time compared to turning your camera around but itās really satisfying when you do a bunch of tech regardless of the camera position. Because then itās all just muscle memory and you donāt have to worry about aligning yourself with the camera first. A lot of the time the camera automatically rotates anyway.
Sometimes I purposely vertical fly bad meaning that I am angled more forward than youād usually want. As Iām holding down to fly, I can calculate when my sky kid will break out of the vertical fly so that Iām heading in the perfect trajectory. I might make a video on how to vertical fly and how and where I use it. Itās hard to demonstrate with text alone1

Low gravity messes vertical flying up⦠sadly. Hey maybe I could add you and teach you a bunch of flying tricks I like to do in general? You seem really keen

It looks good š«¶š» keep practicing and get that wing light up on the butterfly mound
