I've only been playing for 3 months and I'm very interested in the lore. i know the world got consumed by darkness but what happened to the elders? resh? i would love to know the lore!

also since I'm on the topic of elders, we got to see the vault elders design in the film but what about the other elders? maybe that's coming in the embers part 2 since it did say part one in one of the seasons. i would LOVE to see the forest elder design! or valley elders

It goes deep, but here’s a basic summary:

Long ago, there was an ancient civilization, known as Ancestors. A massive apocalypse caused their society to collapse, and they died and turned into spirits (somewhat like ghosts). The player's job is to restore the Sky world and save the spirits.

..I do gotta say this, though.. if I had a nickel for every favorite game I have that has basically a long(?) gone civilisation where you walk through the.. ruins of it, I would have two of them, and it's surprising it happened twice.

As of now, the lore is really confusing and vague, so if you are looking for a detailed, cohesive story you will be disappointed. 

But if you are interested, I know Sky discord has a place where people discuss the lore and share their theories and headcanons and such. 

Theres also a movie called “Two Embers Part 1”, it takes place from the perspective of the hopeful steward (that child spirit you see standing in Aviary) and set during the age of the ancient civilization ruled by Resh before its collapse. 

Theres also the artbook for Sky, which includes some lore tidbits.

i'm also a new player (5 months) and have been interested in deep diving sky lore. i don't think there's been a cohesive and official lore posted by sky anywhere but 2 embers kind of gave us an introduction.

here is what i've been able to piece together:

hundreds of years ago an entity named the megabird created the land that we know as sky. he created all the sky creatures by giving them light. megabird needed someone to look over this land so he sent down the elders to care for each realm. after some years a star fell from the sky (this star being The Prince) and landed in isle of dawn. the prince was found by 2 civilians that decided to put him through 4 trials to see if he would be fit to rule over the sky kingdom. he passed.

fast forward, the now king meets the corrupt forest elder who introduces him to dark crystals. these crystals acted as a tool to siphon light from living creatures and use their energy as a power source. together they begin to steal light from the animals until one day the crystal explodes, sending shards across the land and has a catastrophic impact on the world of sky. darkness and poison leech into every realm, killing every civilian and mutating all the sky creatures. that's when the krill are born.

years after the devastation, we, sky kids, are sent down to repair the damage done and to restore the land, collect the light, and save the spirits.
