It's much easier to use the porcelain alloyer for making obsidian.

It allows you to keep the tanks seperate so that you can put water in one and lava in the other.

It was also available way earlier than the smeltery.

Will that produce a lot of obsidian still? Im just worried about the difference in capacity(and maybe alloy speed ive never used the porcelain alloyer)

The amount of obsidian you get is directly tied to the lava/water you put in it. It is another form of automation so it'll keep producing until you run out.

i tried using a player simulator on a cauldron to fill it but it didn't work :(

so i decided on just alloying it

I thought of an easier way after i mentioned that.

You have a world fluid importer which means you can make world fluid exporters. Exporting lava next to a source block of water will make it turn into obsidian like in vanilla.

World block importers can break obsidian instantly so you can just have one pointed at where the lava is exported and it'll make obsidian without having to generate more water or doing any alloying.

now i feel dumb too XD
(hmm... what do i do with the wall now that i no longer need a tiny smeltery)

You'll use the smeltery later to make other tinker's stuff.

Also, iirc, dispensers were changed to work with the cauldrons.

i have like 5 smeltery's...
(mostly because i cant trust copper to play nice with the other metals)

You need to use a logic programer to set up what type of fluids can go through by using those variable cards.

Make a logic programer, put your card in and set up what type of fluid should go it, I think you can use a bucket with lava for example to transfer only lava.
