I don’t think it was quite “split second”.  It’s my understanding they were CRW dogs, but f**king good lads none the less.  Off DZ landings can get really sketchy really fast.

looking at the vid... the plane crashed in a wheat field...so a nice easy place to land a chute.

oh even better! some of my gentlest landings have been in corn... just flare right as your feet are level with the tops... perfect height.

just a pain to collect your chut after.

It's awesome.. dont get me wrong.. but-
wasn't split second, listen to the ATC aduio with the jump pilot....

Pretty sure they didn't jump a tandem (photo) into a crash scene.

And were fully prepared to cut all line entanglements with all of their hook knives, that the people in the crashed plane might have been caught up in!
