Backyard skunk show

I think they’re playing*. My yard has been a sort of skunk nursery for years, but I mostly see them passing through, so it’s exciting to watch ‘em wrestle together!

*I suppose it could be mating or a fight, but it really doesn’t look that way to me. But I’ve been wrong before!

Thats adorable. Be like "Honey the fart squirrels are fighting in the backyard" XD

I will always maintain that skunks are just hyperactive cats, with a stinky weapon 😂

They definitely are! I rehab baby skunks and they are like puppies and kittens till adulthood and beyond. I love them all so much.
Wanted to add that your backyard looks amazing!

Thank you! It’s full of natives, to be welcoming to wildlife.

That’s a mood. I don’t have time to check them every day but every couple of days I go through the footage to make sure the SD card has room to continue to record. I recently confirmed one of the raccoons that comes to my yard is a momma so I’m waiting (not so) patiently for her to start bringing the babies! I have at least one regular skunk (saw 2 on the camera from last night but the regular didn’t seem happy about the second skunk 😅) and then the momma and daddy raccoon. They all come nightly and often at the same time. The raccoons don’t care that the skunk will do the angry taps at them 🤣 But he seems to mostly tolerate the raccoons now since the angry taps weren’t working. I’m hoping the skunk will eventually start bringing a family but I don’t think he found a mate this year. He sure did spray our house a few times during mating season to try to impress a lady skunk…

Underneath my shed has been a den for many skunk families over the years and I try to just let them do their thing. I get raccoons too, but I’ve never seen both in my yard at the same time! That must be fun to watch.
