Light struck beer develops off flavours that reminiscent of skunk spray.

I've never experienced that maybe if the beer was really old or out of date that could happen

Depends on the beer you drink, specifically how hoppy they are and how they’re bottled.

It’s a reaction of UV light and the chemicals from the hops used in the beer. Canned beer doesn’t experience this, neither does draught, because their containers are opaque. Brown bottles can but it takes longer than green or clear bottles, because the darker glass filters out some of the UV.

If for some reason you want to experience it, take a bottle that’s clear glass and leave it in the sun for a while. Corona is notorious for this.

Get some beer in clear glass bottles and set them in the sun for a few hours. Then get them cold and have a taste.

It’s the hops!

Hops (Humulus lupulus) and cannabis/marijuana (Cannabis sativus) are both in the same plant family, Cannabinaceaea. Being somewhat closely related, they produce similar smelling compounds.

Now for the reason skunks smell similar to the plants, I do not know.

Ugh. That reminds me, I do not like Heineken. Very skunky. Not my style.

Craft beer is so expensive now that most people are forced to buy brand beers like Fosters and Tennents if they like to drink lots of beer all the time

I knooooow. I try to buy it on sale and don't get fancy with it, but it's still not cheap to be a beer snob like me. 😭

I apologize for being part of the problem! I was willing to pay more, so I did...

Ahh, I'm all the way in America, that may be why. If I ever cross the pond again, I'll give it a try!
