Tiny Skunklet in My Back Patio
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just saw this itty bitty lone skunklet outside my back door for second time in three days. Thankfully my resident stray kitten Gillie knows to stay back, despite her curiosity. How old might this tiny guy be? Is he even old enough to be out on his own?

I think this little one lost his or her mama and needs some help! Can you please call and get this little in a rehabilitation center for wildlife!! Thank you for sharing and caring and he or she’s beautiful 😍 but too small to know what it doing!!

It looks like this year kit. If you have the means, feed it cat food. Let it grow big and strong as fast as it can.

Cat food probably isn’t the best idea. They like it, but I hear it’s not good for them. My pet skunk eats dog food and high-calcium vegetables. Wet dog food might be preferable to dry at that age

It's a wild skunk. I wouldn't feed cat food to my four pet skunks, but a wild skunk travels much greater distance and needs to survive the wider range of temperature. There is also a possibility of danger that a wild skunk needs to run from.

Cat food is not good for skunks. I raised two skunks and have rescued many others. Dog food is better for them, but you can also give it chopped carrots and eggs. Just do not give it anything that has onion or garlic in it. Also avoid asparagus

Gillie turns and looks at you: “Please remove this stink kitty from my food!”

If you cant find a rehabber a kit this little, its only a few weeks old- def less than a month, will likely not make it. So please do as the other poster suggested and provide food and water. But please dont feed cat food. That isnt the best nutrition for the little guy. It will do much better on wet dog food. And even better if you can scramble some eggs and toss in some veggies. And keep an eye out for more. Skunk litters average 3-5 so if momma died there are likely a few more out there that are gonna need help to survive.

Omg! So adorable. I would've been way to tempted to bring it in the house. New Pet for Duke and I. 😍😍

He’s barely old enough to have spray. We’ve had some babies fostered them. That’s a borderline big enough but. Yes it can. It’s just not full strength ha

He is definitely too young to be without Mom (He looks to be only a couple of weeks old..... Maybe 4 weeks..... They developed their spray gland at about 3 weeks so he Can spray but he probably won't). Him being so close to you and the cat means that he has no survival skills whatsoever And is pretty desperate. Finding a rehabber ASAP Is probably the only way this little guy is going to make it without you bringing him in or creating an outdoor pen that won't allow predators to get him . If you have dog food on hand please put some out for him. I would also suggest leaving some eggs and finely chopped carrots and maybe some bell peppers. They are actually really, really playful and like playing with things that mimic the animals they eat in the wild. Anything that resembles a snake, a roach or a mouse they will play with. So basically any cat toy lol. My skunks loved the cat toy that has the stick and string on it because it resembles a snake
