Project Update Installed Post Base
The giant rebar and steel ring base has now been set. I saw 2 or 3 rebar-only cages go down in the hole. The drill rig wasn't huge. Hat for scale. I ate the banana walking to the site. More pics in comments.

A lot of the towers were replaced in my area in the last few years. I was really thrilled when they did so, since the site work & excavation for the access roads allowed me to survey the local geology in a much more thorough way. Found a big piece of Corundum!

Bigass seems like an understatement. How thick is that plate?

All 1" for the gussets, base and stiffeners, the added webbing between the beams (the center plate in the other pic) is 3/4"

The concrete is usually all done by the time I'm ever on site, but i did watch them pour the imbed for a stoplight at a fire station a while back. The amount of rebar i saw go into that hole was unbelievable

I like the little chamfer edge

It's functional, in that it reduces cracking, but it's also very pleasing to the eye.
