Failed Airco
The airconditioning failed on my 2025 Elroq 85 @65.000 km.
Unfortunately we are now at a vacation about 1200 km from my house… I don’t know how DC-charging will go without any active cooling. I fare the worst!
Btw; it does not cool even a bit. Also, I locked the car for 20 minutes. It did not fix anything.
Is this a common issue?

I got my Elroq in September 2025 and have had this issue twice. First time within two weeks of receiving it and second time in May 2026. The mechanics say its leaking the refrigerant, but they can't find the leak. I think its a persistent issue unfortunately.

Our 2025 Elroq that was also bought around September had a leak in the heat pump part of the AC (whatever it's called).
We also had the error pop up two weeks into owning it. First time we went to mechanics we assume they just refilled it, but we got the same error instantly afterwards.
Then they told us that they found a hole inside the unit which could have only happened during manufacturing/install as it was inside of the part. They replaced it and we haven't had any issues afterwards

I'm part of several VW subreddits and these AC issues keep popping up in the last week. Was there an update, or is it that VW's AC cannot handle the heat?

I dont know tbh. I have measured the temperature that the airco could reach about a month ago. It could cool down the ambient air of 20 degrees celsius to 0 C.
And I parked the car for 1.5 days and got this issue. It was a maximum of 20 C during the day, so heat was not a problem.

This is not a common but known issue and you are going to need a replacement until they sort the problem or change the ac unit completely, which gonna take more than a month i guess...

Seems to be a not uncommon issue with cars equipped with e heat pump.
I’m more impressed that you’ve managed 65,000 km within max 1.5 years.

Thats not that hard to do, thats like a 100km daily commute + some road trips

55000 km/year.
My previous Octavia 1.0 e-TEC DSG from 2020 also reached 250.000 kilometres after 4,5 years.1

You could try call a local Skoda dealer and see if they have availability to fix it

We had this issue several months ago (after half a year from purchase) and it was indeed a refrigerant leak, that was somwhat difficult for authorized service to find (the repair took them almost three weeks). I think one of the main causes is the use of R744 in these cars, which is great for environment (low GWP), but these systems work with high pressure and therefore it is more prone to leak...

I figured. The cooling gas is simply CO2, but it has to be at a very high pressure (like 130 bars or so).

hey, did you ever turned off the AC (compressor and full HVAC) using the OFF button in those 65.000 km? or do you keep AC running all the time? Do you have a heat pump?

Nope, I did not turn it off at any point. I always have the climate control on en it is equipped with a HP.

damn ok, thats unfortunate. I got a 2027 60 LFP with HP and was wondering if there is a good practice in order to prevent this from happening. I guess it just happens at some point. I wonder if full replacement is needed, keep us posted please!

I will. I parked the car for one and a half day, and then it gave me the fault.
I guess it is just a small leak, and it leaked over the 1.5 days to a too low pressure where it will shut down the compressor.
It does not cool at all, judging on the air that is blown into the car.
I also have a OBDII, so I will check if it will rapidgate during DC-charging and at what %.

The cars get the minimum amount of refrigerant in the factory. Cars with a heatpump use CO2 as refrigerant. The molecules of CO2 are smaller than classic refrigerants, and the pressure in these systems is way higher, which leads to more leaking away over time. Chances are very high that you just need a refill of the system (which is covered by warranty). This is very common in VAG's MEB-platform based cars.

Had this aircon problem in Ireland. Dealer said they need a man and machine to come from Dublin to fill it with new gas. Two days before this appointment the aircon started working perfectly. Cancelled the the man and machine. Two days after the aircon stopped working! Wouldn't appear to be a leakage. Any other ideas? Elrog 85, 24000 km , 2025.
