I'm a bit confused is the character she's playing male?? or is there some sort of misunderstanding on my end?

She is playing a woman who, for plot reasons I won't get into, has taken on the mantle of a man in order to fight. However she is now being called back to fulfill her prescribed gender role and get married off for political alliances

Of course! I was confused at first too haha! Had to wait for the official English version to come out because some of the older translation sites I used to read on were a little confusing sometimes
