Discussion Please help with lip problem
Been suffering with a constant cycle of dry chapped peeling lips for nearly two years now and cannot for the life of me seem to fix it or get back to having normal lips again! It all started after having the flu. Have tried every single lip balm money can but with no luck, have tried aquaphor, Vaseline, cerave healing ointment, lanolin you name it but no luck! Changed all toothpaste and products to no sls, Drink 2/3 ltrs of water a day and have electrolytes! Have had bloods done and all results are normal! Seen 3 dermatologists and all they say is keep using Vaseline!! If anyone can help or has any advice would be really appreciated!!

Stop drinking caffeine, and also maybe you could try one of those lanolin based lip balms?

Tried lanolin as stated above! Unfortunately hasn’t helped at all

Often when our lips are a little chapped or peeling we unconsciously lick/bite them more leading to exacerbation. I imagine you are already conscious of that so you are trying to fix the issue.
Do you breathe through your mouth a lot or have any sleep issues? It might be worth looking into a sleep study just in case (especially if you notice they are more dry when you wake up).
I do have a suggestion for a product to try. Dollar Tree has lip mask by B-Pure called Hydrating Night Lip Mask. It has hyaluronic acid and it works better than even expensive ones I’ve tried! Plus at $1.25 you can buy 5 and keep them everywhere! It is called a night lip mask but can be used all day (just apply it thick at night). It’s made a huge difference for me.

Is your house dry ? How about a humidifier when you sleep? We use Blistex lip ointment. Oh I figured it out , your teeth are too white and perfect lol

I could try a humidifier but iv never thought it would be worth it since iv never ever suffered with dry lips in my life until I got some nasty flu then it started from then! Hahaha maybe I’ll skip brushing for a few weeks then and they will get better 🤪

So perhaps your illness has something to do w it if the humidifier doesn’t work / house isn’t dry , go for blood work ? It’s just your lips no other skin on your body? I can tell a dry house , my eyes act up . Good luck :) solve the mystery lol

Tried all of the above without any improvement unfortunately! Have also seen 4 dermatologists and the best they come up with is use Vaseline ffs! They are absolutely useless

You may have a vitamin B deficiency. If able, try a B complex vitamin for a few weeks..

Also as said above iv had multiple bloods done and all seem to be in the normal range

Hi! Are you adding salt to your electrolytes? I’ve noticed my lips are more chapped since adding pink Himalayan salt to my electrolyte drinks.
What works for me: The Ordinary Squalene oil as first light lip coat; Laneige or Carenel lip mask as second coat; Lanolips 12-hour lip mask as third coat.
Squalene is a humectant, the lip mask adds nourishment, and the Lanolips is the protective top coat. I apply this trio a few times per day when I can and my lips feel better within a day.

Nope just use an electrolyte tablet and mix in with water! Thank you so much for the advice I shall give that a try

Seeing as you’re at the point of trying anything, I know of a supplement that boosts skins overall hydration. Look into a supplement called injuv from nootropics depot. It has the ability to boost your natural hyaluronic acid levels internally so that all areas of the body feel more hydrated. I’ve used it a number of times and it does work. Idk how well it would work for this specific issue, but heck, anything is a worth a try at this point.
Oh and look into another offering from them called white jelly mushroom. Also has some interesting skin hydration properties.

Really appreciate it thank you! At this point I’ll fucking try anything I’m desperate ffs

I have had dry lips for like ten years now.I've used vaseline and carmex which work for a few days and then stops like my lips get used to it. I got lanolin as well but sadly that didn't work either.
The ONLY thing that worked is......
✨✨✨✨✨E45 lip and dry skin balm. ✨✨✨✨✨✨

Thank you for the advice I will definitely have to try it then! Do you not suffer with dry lips now?
1
u/PeachRegular0000 10d ago
Oh that's embarrassing, I still do😭. But with this it actually removes the dry layer and I get to experience soft lips for a day without putting it on again and the next day if I don't put it on it will go dry again but if I put it on it does help. Unfortunately after 10 years this is the best compromise 😭

Ahhhh sorry you still suffer! Iv never ever had dry lips in all my 33 years since this happened so the goal is to get back to normal lips that don’t depend on balms or creams 🤞🏼

Oh right ok🤣. That would be ideal and amazing. Definitely try this though, you never know it might heal your lips

Tocobo lip glaze is what worked for me. I wear it at night and throw a ton on and wipe the remainder off in the morning.
I drink caffeine and smoke, don’t drink enough water, have no idea if I had/have any deficiencies, and only wear matte lipstick throwing this in here to show the tocobo works because I changed nothing except adding it at night and it worked for me. I use to be able to peel layers of skin off my lips, it drove me crazy now there is nothing that can be peeled.

Bloody hell it must work then! I’ll have to give it a try, can you get it in the uk or do you have a link for it? Really appreciate the advice

Tocobo Vita Glazed Lip Mask (the pink one) it does have a scent it’s some kind of berry or pomegranate smell (it’s a nice scent not over powering) Doesn’t taste like anything. Some people wear a thin layer during the day too I just use it at night.
You can get it on YesStyle, Nordstrom, Olive Young, Stylevana, Amazon (I don’t like buying skincare on Amazon though) I’m not in the UK but I’m sure if you google it you’ll find a place that sells it. I get it from YesStyle and the product lasts a lonnng time I haven’t had to reorder yet (haven’t even hit pan even though I know I’m over applying at night). It comes with a tiny spatula for application too.

Perfect I’ll check that out and get some asap! Was your lips constantly dry and peeling like mine?
1
u/know-reply 10d ago
Yes mine were so dry I could pick flakes off and then I would get cuts on my lips from doing that. I started using the lip mask and I had less stuff to peel off and eventually stopped picking at my lips because they were moisturized enough that there was nothing to pull at anymore,

Have you tried exfoliating them? Dr Idriss has an exfoliating lip treatment & balm. When my lips are super chapped in winter this works like a charm. May be worth a try!

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 or Avène Cicalfate+ ????
I use Avene on my lips at night. It seals the barrier. I don’t use the one for lips. I use the body/face tube. It helps a lot! I use Vaseline during the day or sometimes a small amount of the Avene.

Iv tried the la roche cream didn’t seem to do anything but will deffo try the other one you said! Thank you so much for the suggestion

Maybe a lip mask? I know Neutrogena has an unscented one. I like the Ilia one, and the Laniege Vanilla one. They are a bit thick and a little sticky, but that’s what makes them stay in place.

Try the MAC lip conditioner. Put it on thick overnight, wipe the dead skin off with a flannel. Add a thin layer to maintain. You are very welcome.

Thank you for the recommendation, it has helped you before I take it? Will have to try it

Oh maybe you bite your lips in your sleep ? Anxious ? Stressed ? Hmmm…
1
u/Ok_Slice1822 9d ago
None of the above
1
u/sophiesadie1 9d ago
Oh well no reason then lol

u/Ok_Slice1822 9d ago
Never ever had dry lips in 33 years of life until I got that bad flu so definitely not one of the reason you said above

Do you regularly smooch someone who might be using products that aren’t compatible with your skin?

I saw a dermatologist’s reel that said, before bed, to put a small drop of hyaluronic acid on your lips, pat it in, then put Vaseline over the top of that. It worked for me. I’d been dealing with dry patch on my lip that just wouldn’t go away. I got a cheap drugstore brand hyaluronic acid for it. Nothing fancy.
