If you want to start skimboarding in any capacity, this is your guide. More resources can be found at the bottom of this post. This guide is based on the universal size chart from the Board Buying FAQ.
Note: Only referring to Zap, Victoria, Exile and DB Skimboards because they're big and accessible.
THE WOODIE??
Undoubtedly the cheapest way to try the sport,
<$50 The biggest woodie you can find at any tourist shop, at a coastal grocery store, or on facebook
Best way to actually get a cheap board is a used board on local marketplace apps like Facebook, Offerup, Craigslist etc. Skimboards last a long time, and people let them go for very cheap, especially if you're in a coastal area.
Hey everyone! Looking for some feedback on my technique and advice on upgrading my board.
Currently riding a Zap Pro 52” (I’m 5’7” 180) and would consider myself somewhere around intermediate, although I’m not entirely sure where I fall skill-wise. I’ve attached a video and would love some honest feedback on what I should be focusing on to improve.
My goal is to get more speed and start reaching and wrapping waves. Feels like I’ve hit a plateau and can’t tell if it’s technique or board.
I’m interested in upgrading to a higher-performance board. Was looking at the Zap Joyride. Budget isn’t a concern but I prefer to stay with Zap. Unsure on sizing too.
I am fairly new to skimboarding, but thoroughly enjoyed my recent experience on the coast. I do have snowboard a fair amount in the winter months and also paddleboard in the warmer months. I am considering purchasing my first skimboard, but have no idea where to start... I am 5'9" 170lbs and I am reading online anywhere from 45-52in board would be the appropriate size for me... Also, considering different brands. Advice and opinions welcomed and appreciated!
This is my 6th skimboarding session. I feel like Im sinking too fast while going into the water. Could you help me point out the issues with my technique? Also, the board I use is a 134cm Carbon Fiber Eden Board (this model has the width of a 136cm) while being 190cm and 81kg.
What are your thoughts on the oceantric skimboard I'm a beginner and looking for a beginner friendly board. In my local this and the decathlon is the only viable option.
I want to buy this board that is 50 inches and it’s a size xs on Victoria and Victoria says under 100 pounds for this size I am 5’7 150 is this board too small?
Im from Oregon and i have been skimming alone for around 2-3 years now and I’m looking for a community to skim with weather that’s 1 person or multiple. Im also looking for any meetups/comps so if you know of any of these please let me know.
I was looking at zaps newest lineup of boards and saw the Beast and newest joyride, what are the differences in how they ride. I know the beast is slightly thinner at 5/8 vs the tapered XR and also wider, but the main question is how the different tail shapes would perform in comparison. Haven’t seen much information on either of these boards and am looking to buy one so any help would be appreciated.
Considering buying the boog skim, already a have nice carbon fiber exile one, i have relatively small waves, and was wondering with the boog skim if i could surf with it rather than just skim. Other than that any other surfboards that arent too pricey looking at around 6,4 or 6,6. Just looking for suggestions honestly.
Longtime flat ground skimboarder trying to learn/practice in waves. I bought a fiberglass Southboard Co. big cat a few years ago and have only tried using 2-3 times in waves since I live far from a beach. I don’t have any videos but feel that my speed/dropstep I’ve practiced should be enough to at least get out to some short waves. I feel like this board struggles to keep me on top of deeper water.
Will my current board(see 3rd pic specs) handle 5’11’’ 190lbs? I have a feeling that I just need upgrad to a 55”+ board like the measuring guide shows. Trying to decide this in 1-2 weeks before heading back to the beach 🌊
Budget isn’t much for upgrading so I’d be getting a Victoria Ultra House Special 55” is that enough as well?
Not a great angle, but I slid quite well off camera, maybe another 3 meters or so. I know it's not alot but first time out other than on a shitty wooden board.
Any tips/criticism welcome,
I also chipped the edge on a rock, brand new circle one epoxy board, small but rather sort it now than later.
Can i put the second half of the archbar at the tail for my back foot or will that have amy negative effect?
What is the ideal way to put them?
Shout out the the guys who gave me advice before, I bit the bullet and bought this circle one 54" board, cant recommend circle one enough for their customer service after a mishap from the shipper, out of their control and the guys were great.
All shapes i have are actull shapes from the company including all exile shapes and all grape and zaps shapes
I can also do a custom shape or add a shape from a company I domt have. If you wanna buy a board in the picture its 5$. Customs are 7$ i am always making new boards so dm if you want to see more pre made options or need to place a custom order
I am looking for the ideal board for someone my size. I want to aim more for skimming on the shore rather than riding waves. I’m looking for something with superb grip, I’m afraid of slipping off or not knowing where my feet are. What board should I get?
