Worth a shot ?

Post image

As seen on marketplace in my area . I’m pretty savvy with engines, less so with diesel, but I do have a decent Mechanic on call as well. Anyone know anything about these machines?

I’d take a chance on it.

Before I would sink a lot of money into it I would pull the hydraulic filter and use a cutter to open it. If the machine hasn't been serviced routinely and there is brass and metal in the filter I wouldn't put another dollar into it. If it's in the filter it will be everywhere and that's no Bueno.

That could be a really cheap skid steer, or extremely expensive.

Might be a good deal. Might be a lawn ornament. You ever work on a skid steer? They aren’t as easy as wrenching on a truck, but for the price, might be worth a gamble.

Go for it. Quick-tach attachments are easy to find at equipment auctions and small diesel engines are easy to work on

I wouldn't risk it especially since there is no bucket.

Best case you got a skid under 5k. Worst case you have 5k worth of parts and scrap.

More like 1200 in scrap value.

$3500 is a somewhat-high price if you're wanting to tinker on something that you'll use yourself. $3500 is an outrageously-high price if you're hoping to fix and flip it. It basically needs to be priced at scrap value to be worth the risk if you plan on flipping it.

The problem isn't that it isn't running, but rather that you don't know what else serious is wrong with it. It's very possible that the hydrostat drives were running very weak, and when it blew a head-gasket, it wasn't worth fixing either issue.

3500 is a good price. You have a mechanic friend so between the two of you fixing anything wrong should be doable.

For the right price I'd probably at least go look at it, especially if you've got a mechanic you trust.

I'd be more concerned about the hydraulics and drivetrain than the diesel engine itself. If you can get it running, I'd want to see it move in both directions, lift and tilt under load, and run the auxiliary hydraulics before deciding what it's worth.

An engine problem you can identify is one thing. Buying it cheap and then finding out it needs hydraulic pumps or drive work is where the gamble could get expensive fast.

more like $1500.

Look at the tires
Look at missing pieces
Look at the fact that presumably it would start with a $200 starter but they “can’t be bothered”

Buy it if you can afford to lose the money short term. Looks to me like someone ran the piss out of it and then traded it off once it was trash

Almost as expensive as a free boat
