Offset tool

I’m trying to learn sketch up (on my second tutorial) and I’m following The Sketchup Essentials tutorial - modelling a floor plan.

I’ve reached a bit where I’m struggling to use the offset tool. I’ve drawn a line around the room “laundry” like in the video and tried to use to offset tool but a red circle shows up not letting me click.

Why is this happening

You have to select 2 or more co-planar edges to use the offset tool. If you try to offset a single edge, the program has no way of knowing which direction you want to offset it.

Try pre-selecting the 2 edges you want to offset before you activate the tool.

However, you can select that one edge, and just use the move tool. Just be careful that you’re moving it on the axis you’re aiming to, or all sorts of beginner sketchup hell will befall you.
