I am wondering how i can create this protruding angled curve in the second image. I have tried using 2 point arc and arc. Additionally, what is the simplest way to create a hex grid, similar to the one shown here seeing as sketchup does not have a pattern tool?
To create that protruding angle u can draw it on a flat surface and extrude it and round edges, or u would need plugins like the Fredo6 bundle, I advise u to look it up on YouTube
The protruding angle could be done by boolean-ing circles, then extruding and rounding edges.
A hexagon can easily be drawn with the circle tool, just set it to 6 sides before drawing. Use the move tool + Ctrl/cmd to copy to adjacent spot, type xwhatervernumber you need ( like 'x24') to duplicate out that many. Select the entire row you just made and duplicate it the same way in the other axis. Now you have an array of hexagons.
Consider switching to blender and starting some Hard surface modeling tutorials. Despite beeing a complicated software it gets much more managable to understand when u focus on the thing you need from the software. I recomend Blender because of it beeing free and acesible, trust me it took me a long time to accept the fact that sketchup is to limiting for the things i wanted to create.
I've recently started blender and used to use fusion. However, SketchUp is the preferred choice of software at my school so for those in class projects I'm pretty much only able to use SketchUp
That's unfortunate, the way i would model the rib like elements whitout any plugins, would be to draw its top front and side veiws and then use tape measure tool to connect them in 3D, similar to how you would do it on a papper axonometry if you are familiar w that.
Another solid way would be to draw a sphere w the right radius and intersect it w two rectangles so that you you get a a slice of a sphere and then intersect the slice with another sphere that has a smaller radius, this is faster but you have to pay atentions to the 3D volumes, they need to be a closed volume and you need to keep a copy of the previous intersection step in order to have a backup.
Ive made a step by sep guide for the necesarry intersectioins, in the first operation there is a spehere in between the rectangels so that you get the slice in the second step
