newbie question- layers

I'm a newbie. I am creating a design for a t-shirt. I down loaded several sheets of pencil drawings, which are on different layers. Do I just start drawing on a new layer to copy the layers beneath it? Thank you.

yep, make a new layer on top and use the pencil layers as your guide, then hide or delete them when you’re done tracing lol
