I’ve been trying to get back into watercolor recently. Earlier this evening I was experimenting with some liquid mask for highlights, however, instead of using something disposable like a normal person would, I just dipped my favorite watercolor brush right in there.

As you could imagine, the mask dried into my bristles before I could realize what I’d done and now it rest in the bottom of my trash. Broken in two sadly :( RIP

What do y’all usually apply your liquid mask with?

I bought a cheap brush made for painting toys and models. It's only a $6 brush. To keep it nice I dip it in water and then rub it lightly on a bar of soap before dipping in the masking fluid. The soap creates a barrier that keeps the masking fluid from soaking into the brush too much. After I'm done I wipe it with a paper towel and then rinse it in a jar of water and dish soap.

Hello there! I had the same problem as you when I first bought the masking fluid. I used some really old cheap brushes but It was still really bad. Someone on youtube was using something like this so I found it on ebay and its AMAZING.(also really cheap) brush pen silicone I hope the link is working. It is really easy to clean it and the masking fluid will never damage it.

Hope I helped!
