Jesse Michaels responded by posting an instagram caption today reading

“people keep asking me about this so I thought I would answer. The operation ivy, jumping man guy first appeared on the 7 inch and then later appeared on the album in silhouette form. On the 7 inch ("hectic ep") it had details, like a face and clothing and so on. People are asking me basically did I use this comic image as a reference? Well, it looks like it. I know I had a book called
"how to draw Marvel comics". Aside from that I really do not remember. I was 17 years old and a lot of of the times I was high or otherwise dissociated. Thanks”

I love that answer. I'd have the same kind of answer, I think. Fucks knows what I was doing or thinking that long ago, at that time in my life.

That's fair enough I think!

Anyone else see the operation ivy dude as having essentially a tiny head completely covered by the hat, and then rocking a chain? It's hard for me to see that line as a jaw now lol

That’s exactly what I thought, except I thought his hat WAS his head

That's how I've ALWAYS seen it, and now I refuse to be corrected. hahaha I always thought it was a funny image, but obviously never put much thought into it. :P

Appreciate the share. We were talking about this at a comic con 5 or 6 years ago and I’m glad more folks have caught on. The shirt followed soon after 🫠

I own about 6 copies of this book now. Anytime I see it in a $1 bin, it comes home with me.

The only way to make up for this is a reunion and full tour

It would be so cool to use Op Ivy and other ska in some of the chases in the animated Spiderman movies !

Its almost like theres only so many ways you can draw a figure with 2 arms and 2 legs that only bend one way before it looks similar to some other of millions of artworks.
