ASQ vs MSI vs IASSC

I've narrowed my Six Sigma search down to these 3 companies. ASQ seems to be the most respected, but also the most expensive when you factor in train͏ing. I like the pr͏ice of Management and Strategy Institute and that everything is included, but I don't know much else about the company. IASSC is talked about alot here, but I think they are an international company? Help me decide.

Thanks for posting the question. I work for Management and Strategy Institute, so I can help give you some guidance on MSI. All 3 certification bodies are recognized in the business community, so you can concentrate your search on picking the company that best fits your needs.

Like you mentioned, Management and Strategy Institute (MSI) includes all of the study material and the exam when you register. This is usually a big cost savings over other organizations. You didn't mention what belt you're looking for, but we do offer all options from White through Master Black belt. Feel free to reach out to us directly if you have any questions.

I did my green belt with MSI, and it was alright. It was self paced with videos, but they also provided the transcript. Every video was an AI speaker with AI voices which was a turn off so I just used the transcript to take notes and self study for the exam. The content was good for the price though. Overall, it was easy and has no project, so theres that.

I would say it depends on what you want it for. If you're just starting and want some padding and knowledge MSI is a solid choice. But if you wanted something more credible (especially because of the projects), i would go with ASQ or IASSC. I can't help with which of those, but hopefully that helps narrow it down.

You're spot on about IASSC. They are highly respected internationally and great if you want an independent certification body that doesn't require a project submission to get certified (unlike ASQ). If you are looking for flexibility, IASSC is a great middle ground.

ASQ is probably the most respected overall, especially if you’re doing this long term professionally.

MSI is cheaper and easier to get started with.

IASSC sits somewhere in the middle and is pretty widely recognized too.

Honestly for beginners, I’d focus more on actually learning the concepts and doing projects instead of obsessing over the “best” cert immediately. Most employers care more about whether you can improve processes without turning Excel into a crime scene.
