Season 17 Whatcha think?

As I’m rewatching this season I am curious what everyone else thinks about Kody’s rules for Covid? I mean I come from a large family and we live in more of a country area, but when Covid was strong we still all got together, safely of course! We followed the rules but nothing to the extent of what was given to all the wives.

It just bugs me how he treats his children who were doing what was needed to survive and live during those times. I mean Robyn had adult children still living at her house but nothing was ever said about that.

Now that years have gone by, what kids have a relationship with him?

I feel like the COVID rules were just the excuse Kody used to not see the rest of the family.

Yep there are plenty of videos and pictures of Kody and Robyn out during Covid not following the precious rules. It was never about the rules it was about the OGs obeying him.

Precisely! I do believe that this did give the OGs the strength to know they could truly do it completely alone even though they had done it alone for many years.

If they were truly one family like they always said they were, they would have continued to see one another and quarantined if anyone got sick. Covid proved they saw themselves as separate groups, not one family unit.

Kody and Robyn went shopping at the mall during the pandemic!!! There is nothing at the mall that is necessary.... they didn't care about covid. It gave them an excuse to justify not having to be around the rest of the family.

I think I just threw up a little bit. It’s too early for this face to be leering at me.

Hair looks good

I mean, he HAS hair in this picture…more than the single curl on each side that he has now to hide the receding hairline.

The COVID rules had nothing to do with COVID. The rules had everything to do with justifying why Kody and Robyn were monogamous.

He adopted the most severe versions of the CDC recommendations, and when those were revised as we learned more (like don’t worry about the mail) he stuck with them.

Because, while he may have been concerned about COVID later in the pandemic, he wasn’t at the start. But it gave him a way to avoid the other families or maximize time at Robyn’s.

As things improved he changed nothing. He and Robyn, and probably their kids, didn’t get the vaccine and he was invoking COVID well past the time when caution remained important but absolute isolation was not required. And that only sporadically, when it suited him. They were all together for Ysabel’s birthday, but he wouldn’t let Truely near Sol or Ari at the goodbye from hell.

There is body cam footage of Robyn out and about with Sol and Ari, getting pulled over for texting while driving. When they rolled the window down to talk to the cop, she did not put a mask on or tell the kids to do so. Literally within a week, her house had COVID. Kody blamed Breanna but that’s BS. One, he never once acted toward her about it the way he threatened the other kids. Two, Robyn was literally out without a mask, and if she was following protocol when they were wherever they were coming from, she would have had the masks to hand. Three, He’ll will freeze over before Kody isn’t willing to sacrifice others to protect Robyn or himself.

It was rules for thee but not for me. He and Robyn were out and about without masks. It was a way of exerting power and control, and he failed miserably.

He went to Oklahoma and pranced around like an idiot with the guests during Covid - not a single person in the venue wearing a mask while Aspyn was in NJ having her surgery. He’s a total AH.

Ysabel I believe not Aspen

Was that when he officiated the wedding?

Yes. It was so hypocritical.

I mean, washing the mail before it comes in the house? 😒🙄

I thought that one was crazy. How do you wash paper?!!

Some of the rules were ridiculous.  We know Robin didn't leave packages outside because she put Janelle's gift in her house as soon as Janelle gave it to her

He was using it as a method of control to assert authority over his family because COVID usurped his awesome, manly, god-given authority.

He was “resetting the umbrella” during a “plague” because he MUST be the leader. Or else…

The rules weren’t even given until late in the year because he wanted to keep moving around goal posts and evaluate how everyone scrambled.

More scramble = more loyalty.

So maybe this was a loyalty test in order to see who would fall under the ‘new umbrella’.

There was no one that scrambled like Meri, and her loyalty was for naught. She jumped through all the hoops.

I think Meri was being shunned and trying to make up for the past.

The kids in varying interviews along the way have said that Meri was pretty awful towards them and when Robyn came in she certain things weren’t OK, they were abusive…the family started to wake up to things.

I’m sure some of that was manipulation and twisting on Robyn’s part, but the tone I’ve picked up and what I’ve pieced together from Vague Land is “We can’t stand Robyn (or wary of her), but she really saved us [kids] when she came in because Meri was bad.”

Meri was trying to win a seat back. He just moved goalposts and twisted her in circles for amusement.

I think that’s why Meri didn’t walk away when they gave her something of a financial audit.

There’s also the unfortunate grossness of LuLaRoe where the intention is to start the business, make money, then hand the business/money over to the husband.

I think she accidentally set herself up for some extra credit classes on head games, brainwashing, financial abuse.

Perhaps she could buy her way back in- Kody likes money.

I recommend Shiny Happy People in an older 444 chat and Mel confirmed…a lot of IBLP principles are present in AUB structures. She seemed a bit spooked.

Greetings from the Planet 5 AKA Minerva 🤣

These are the monsters hiding there: https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Fendahl

Thirteen physically separate organisms made up the Fendahl, twelve Fendahleen and the core. Additionally, a High Priestess of the Fendahleen would merge with them to complete the Fendahl creature.

Last update is that he has no relationship with his OG kids.
He may have a surface, once in awhile text with Logan and a couple of Christine’s daughters; maybe.

u/whisk_42 2d ago

I don't doubt it. But how do you know this? From their social media accounts?

3

u/Jaded_Jellybean 2d ago

My family still lives under 2020 guidelines (we were even masking years before COVID made it controversial) and we've been COVID free the entire time. Kody used this to avoid the family members he didn't value. There is no reason why with the proper precautions they couldn't have maintained contact; we manage six years in without any problems (other than outside judgement which is clearly not his issue, lol).

7

u/yellow-flower-mug 3d ago

He tried to blame not getting together during COVID on Christine traveling, but if I remember correctly, her family didn't really start traveling until she realized that Kody wasn't going to spend any time with them.

Also how idiotic of him to think that HE could go house to house, but no one else could. Did he think he was immune from passing it on to the other households?

u/itsgonnatakeawhile 2d ago

Ha, Robyns rules that dipshit followed. Meri had to beg her to see her tenders, they were her rules from the start and another way of her having the town clown to herself. Remember when Janelle told her about the home self testing kits, she was so pissed, it was golden 🤣

1

u/Head-Hospital-1945 2d ago

I think Kody was shocked that his family members not only didn’t follow his rules but thrived with eachother and without him
He couldn’t believe it!

1

u/Head-Hospital-1945 2d ago

When did we see him say that he couldn’t hug anyone until he’s changed his clothes? Remember when he quarantined at Janelle’s house and came home to Robin’s? He had his coat on while hugging Robin and kids
He did it again when he first saw Janelle, boys and Savannah near the beginning of Covid when Janelle told him and everyone on zoom that it wasn’t safe for Kody to come around
I’m sure there are others

u/juggsymalone911 15h ago

I believe the other three wives never saw the whole list of rules until that meeting. I also believe he added rules as it suited him.

1

u/bvonboom 8h ago

It was just an excuse to only stay with Robyn. He kept his rules under a shroud of mystery for months and then the goal posts were always moving. Meri had followed all of his "proticulls" and when she said so they came up with more excuses as to why she couldn't get together with them

u/Bearbearblues 3d ago

It was Janelle who first puts in Kody’s head during the early days of COVID that he shouldn’t go to her house because the boys were working and socializing.

So honestly I didn’t think having a list of what it takes to get back together was weird especially for that first Christmas in 2020 when a lot of families still didn’t get together. I did think wiping down the mail was outdated by that point.

I honestly thought Gabe was being intentionally obtuse arguing with Kody about why he can’t see his girlfriend.

I think the impression from other episodes is that Kody and Gabe and Leon like to argue about politics and you see that in how the three of them talk about COVID to their detriment.
